Michigan welcomes Ohio State to town this weekend for a three-game series.
The Michigan baseball squad is set to take on Ohio State for three games in Ann Arbor this weekend. The Wolverines come into the weekend on a two-game winning streak, as they beat Minnesota on Sunday and Toledo on Tuesday.
The win against the Rockets did not come easy, though. The Wolverines jumped out to a 4-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth, but the Rockets tacked on four runs over the next four innings to tie the game.
The Wolverines responded with two runs in the top of the eighth thanks to an RBI single from Mack Timbrook, and then Mitch Voit also scored on an error. That score remained, as the Wolverines took it from the Rockets, 6-4.
Will Rogers and Cole Caruso each had two hits, and Rogers also drove in two runs. Jacob Denner (4-3) earned the win in relief, going 2.2 innings of one-hit ball.
The Wolverines now turn their attention to the Buckeyes as they try and continue their hot play in the Big Ten. Michigan has won two out of three games in all four conference series this year and sit at 8-4 in the Big Ten.
Meanwhile, Ohio State is 18-15 overall and 5-4 in the Big Ten. The Buckeyes have series wins over Purdue and Iowa. Ohio State has won back-to-back games, taking the series finale against Iowa and winning a midweek contest against Wright State.
The Buckeyes are led by a trio of hitters batting greater than .300 on the season — Henry Kaczmear, Matthew Graveline and Tyler Pettorini. Pettorini is tied for the team-lead with five home runs, and is tied with Mitchell Okuley for the team-lead with 32 RBI. Trey Lipsey is also a big-time run producer, as he has 25 RBI this year.
Landon Beidelschies is the Buckeyes’ top pitcher, as he comes into the series with a team-best 3.93 among regular starters. He is just 4-5, though, but he has 61 strikeouts in just 50 innings pitched.
Gavin Bruni is their No. 2 starter and is 2-2 so far this season with a 4.97 ERA. He has struck out 37 batters in 38 innings pitched. Collini Purcell is OSU’s third starting pitcher, but he has struggled at times, sporting a 6.17 ERA and a 1-3 record.
