Yankees Slapped With Horrific Cody Bellinger Prediction

January 16, 2026 by Heavy

The New York Yankees have been way too quiet this offseason and fans are getting restless as they wait for the team to make a sizable move.

Over the last couple of weeks, the future of star free agent outfielder Cody Bellinger has been the focal point of the rumors surrounding the Yankees. While the team has attempted to re-sign Bellinger since the beginning of the offseason, no deal has been agreed to.

With Kyle Tucker and Bo Bichette now signing with the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Mets respectively, the Bellinger market is expected to heat up.

Since Tucker made his decision on Thursday evening, plenty of rumors have come up about Bellinger. Both the Toronto Blue Jays and the Mets have been linked to him.

Keeping that in mind, a new horrific prediction has been made about Bellinger.

Anthony Recker of MLB Network has predicted that Bellinger will end up signing with New York. No, he’s not predicting the Yankees. Instead, he believes that the Mets will swoop in to sign him.

“I do think the Yankees probably need him more,” Recker said . “I think he’s going to end up a Met. I do. I really do.”

The New York Yankees Cannot Afford to Lose Cody Bellinger

Should the Yankees end up losing Bellinger, their chances of competing for a World Series during the upcoming 2026 MLB season would take a massive hit.

Last season, in his first year with New York, Bellinger put up great production. He played in 152 games, hitting 29 home runs to go along with 98 RBI and a slash line of .272/.334/.480. Bellinger also hit a home run and drove in four RBI in the team’s seven-game playoff run.

At 30 years old, Bellinger could be a long-term piece of the Yankees’ puzzle. However, there is a very real chance that he won’t return to New York.

Bellinger has a perfect fit with the Yankees as well. That being said, it’s clear that he’s not going to lower what he thinks he’s worth in free agency simply to re-sign with the Yankees.

What Could the Yankees Do If Bellinger Does Walk Away?

If Bellinger does decide to sign with another team, New York would have to move quickly. There aren’t many high-profile players left available.

Who could the Yankees target if they lose Bellinger? Quite simply, the best option could be trying to trade for a player. Harrison Bader is one of the best free agency options available.

New York does seem heavily interested in making a high-impact move for a starting pitcher. Freddy Peralta has been a name heavily linked to the Yankees. Making that kind of a pitching move would be an alternative for a splash.

At the end of the day, losing Bellinger would be a crushing blow. No one could truly replace what he brought to the team last season.

Hopefully, New York won’t be facing that scenario. Fans can only hope that the Yankees get more aggressive and are able to lock in Bellinger with a new contract.
