Scores, news, and notes from the Detroit Tigers’ farm system for Saturday, June 28, 2025.
Charlotte Knights 9, Toledo Mud Hens 0 (box )
Just an ugly one all around for the Mud Hens on Saturday. They dropped their fourth of the series and struggled in all phases of the game.
Lael Lockhart Jr. got the start, and he wasn’t at his best. Old friend Andre Lipcius doubled in a run in the first inning, but Lockhart settled in pretty well until the fifth. There he gave up two more runs and was chased in favor of Matt Manning. Manning gave up one run charged to Lockhart, but went on to allow a three-run shot. He allowed another three-run shot to Lipcius in the sixth.
The offense managed just three hits on the night.
Hao-Yu Lee: 1-4, BB, 2 K
Ibanez: 1-4, 2B
Lockhart Jr. (L, 3-7): 4.0 IP, 3 ER, 5 H, 3 BB, 5 K
Manning: 1.2 IP, 6 ER, 4 H, 2 BB, K
Coming Up Next: It’s a 4:05 p.m. ET start for the series finale.
Somerset Patriots 7, Erie SeaWolves 3 (box )
Kenny Serwa had a rough go in this one as the Patriots rode a six-run fifth inning to victory on Saturday.
The SeaWolves struck right out of the gate in this one. Trei Cruz drew a walk to start the game and then stole second base. Thayron Liranzo struck out, but Cruz stole third and scored on a Max Anderson single.

Serwa got into a jam in the bottom of the first, but pitched his way out of it. He then settled in until the fifth when he allowed two runs and left the game with the bases loaded. Jordan Marks allowed all those runs to score and gave up one more of his own before the inning finally came to an end.
Liranzo doubled in Carlos Mendoza in the seventh, but a potential rally fizzled out there. Mendoza singled and scored on a Jim Jarvis double in the top of the ninth for the SeaWolves final run.

Anderson: 2-3, RBI, BB
Liranzo: 1-5, RBI, 2B, 3 K
Mendoza: 2-3, 2 R, BB, SB
Serwa (L, 3-2): 4.2 IP, 5 ER, 6 H, 4 BB, 2 K
Coming Up Next: The SeaWolves will hunt a series victory at 1:05 p.m. ET on Sunday.
Relief prospect Tyler Mattison completed his rehab assignment as was assigned to Double-A Erie on Saturday.
West Michigan Whitecaps 21, Lake County Captains 4 (box )
What can I say about the Captains in this one that wasn’t said about the Roman army at the Battle of Cannae? They got annihilated.
The Whitecap scored one in the first, then nine in the second, two in the third, and five in the fourth. And they didn’t stop there, as the math will tell you.
Bennett Lee, Peyton Graham, Patrick Lee, and Luke Gold all homered. Patrick Lee also had three total hits and stole two bases. Josue Briceño had five RBI and was on base five times on the night. Max Clark reached five times as well. Kevin McGonigle didn’t even start this one. He entered the game in the bottom of the second after Izaac Pacheco left with an injury that hopefully was just a right leg cramp, and had a quiet one-hit night.

Just a single for John Peck, but it’s an excuse to talk about his terrific month of June. He’s now 32-for-89 (.360) with 7 doubles, a triple, and 3 homers in 20 games. Also has 5 steals, but the plate discipline needs work (3BB, 22K). pic.twitter.com/hSUaVa4lKD

Hayden Minton got the start, and he struggled a bit. He left the game in the fourth with three runs, two earned, allowed.
Haden Erbe took over through the five, while Jordan Balazovic handled the sixth but allowed a run. Marco Jimenez was great for two perfect innings, striking out four and continuing to have a strong season. The Whitecaps were up so much that they were the ones who used a position player to pitch. Austin Murr tossed a quick 1-2-3 ninth inning to close it out.
Patrick Lee: 3-6, 2 R, 3 RBI, HR, K, 2 SB
Briceno: 2-4, 2 R, 5 RBI, 2 2B, 3 BB, K
Graham: 2-5, 2 R, 4 RBI, HR, 2 BB, K
Clark: 3-5, 3 R, RBI, 2 BB, SB
Stephenson: 2-5, 3 R, 3B, 2 BB, SB
Minton: 3.1 IP, 3 R, 2 ER, 4 H, 2 BB, 4 K
Coming Up Next: The Whitecaps hold a 51-22 record, and this has really gotten ridiculous. Call somebody up for crying out loud. They hold a 4-1 lead in the series with a 1:05 p.m. ET matchup set for Sunday.
Lakeland Flying Tigers 5, Clearwater Threshers 3 (box )
The Flying Tigers got a good start from Josh Randall and racked up eight hits and seven walks to take down the Threshers on Saturday.
Garrett Pennington got the offense started with a single in the bottom of the second inning. He took second base on an error and moved to third on a Cristian Santana single. Ricardo Hurtado brought him home with a single for an early 1-0 lead.
Jackson Strong tripled with two outs in the third but was stranded. The Flying Tigers came right back for more in the fourth. Santana and Samuel Gil drew walks to start the inning, and Hurtado came through with another RBI single.

In the fifth, Jack Penney led off with a single and Franyerber Montilla walked. Strong singled in Penney, and a walk to Santana and a hit by pitch to Gil forced in Montilla for a 4-0 lead.
Meanwhile, Josh Randall was cruising for five innings, shutting out Clearwater until he finally ran out of gas in the sixth. A solo home started the inning, and the Threshers scored two more on four singles before Randall shut things down.
Abel Bastidas walked and later scored on a Pennington single in the sixth to re-open the lead to 5-3, though Strong was cut down trying to steal home later in the inning. Tanner Kohlhepp and Thomas Szapucki shut things down for a combined three innings to close it out.
Strong: 2-3, RBI, 3B, BB, K, CS
Pennington: 2-4, R, RBI, K
Hurtado: 2-4, 2 RBI
Randall (W, 4-5): 6.0 IP, 3 ER, 7 H, 2 BB, 4 K
Coming Up Next: The Flying Tigers will look to complete the sweep on Sunday at noon.
