The Tigers have gotten a lot of strong and surprising performances so far. Who do you trust?
Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the MLB. Throughout the year we ask questions of the most plugged-in Detroit Tigers fans and fans across the country. Sign up here to participate in the weekly emailed surveys.
While some of the Detroit Tigers top performers from 2024 have struggled early this season, they’ve also got several breakout candidates going. Players like Zach McKinstry and Javier Báez have played an outsized role as utilitymen. Kerry Carpenter has been fine, while Colt Keith is off to a slow start and Riley Greene came out red hot and has cooled to glacial temps over the last few series.
Still, it’s a long season and generally good players solve their issues and play good baseball over time.
What we’re interested in here are the true breakouts. Tigers fans have been waiting for years now for Spencer Torkelson and Casey Mize to establish themselves as good MLB caliber players. So far, the two have been among the team leaders, with Torkelson in particular among the league leaders in many hitting categories. Finally, Dillon Dingler has gotten a chance to settle in and play most days with Jake Rogers injured. He’s taken advantage to show his rough start at the plate in his MLB debut last summer was nothing more than a rough start.
Of these players, which are you most confident in sustaining their current level of performance?
