Plus: Did the Tigers break their own trade target?
Last night’s Tigers game was a little bit of a good news/bad news situation. The good news? The Tigers won, making it two games in a row, something that felt almost impossible last week. The bad news? Will Vest hit Diamondbacks’ third baseman Eugenio Suarez with a pitch that appeared to do some serious damage to Suarez’s fingers. (At the time of this writing his condition has not yet been updated). This is a sticky situation because the Tigers were rumored to be one of the clubs very interested in trading for Suarez.
Not an ideal situation for Suarez, the Diamondbacks, or the Tigers. A rare lose-lose-lose if Suarez does indeed have broken fingers.
One of the highlights of last night, though, aside from the win, was the wonderful outing by Troy Melton, going seven innings in just his second game.
In non-Tigers news, the focus on betting narrows in Cleveland with another suspension, and things got tense between Bryce Harper and Rob Manfred regarding the suggested salary cap.
Let’s get into it!

- The Tigers are (unsurprisingly) being considered a serious target for Eugenio Suarez to land this trade season , especially after he indicated an interest in returning to the club that drafted him. (This interest could be very complicated now after Suarez was hit by a pitch in last night’s game).
- Four trade deadline targets for the Tigers this week, according to Sports Illustrated.
- A new episode of Have a Seat, this time featuring Gleyber Torres.

- An interesting breakdown…
Emmanuel Clase has thrown 22 pitches this season with a 0-0 count with the bases empty outside of the Gameday strike zone.
Of those, I’ve classified 11 of them as “uncompetitive.” Here is a look at all of them. pic.twitter.com/zLCawGsyM9

MLB News:
- Apparently, Bryce Harper was not impressed with Rob Manfred floating the idea of a salary cap.
Philadelphia Phillies star Bryce Harper stood nose to nose with MLB commissioner Rob Manfred during a meeting last week and told him to “get the f— out of our clubhouse” if he wanted to talk about a salary cap, sources told ESPN. News free and unlocked: https://t.co/DukJC3i8T5

- Some comments made by Mark DeRosa (he insists as a joke) were taken as a threat by players following the confrontation between Harper and Manfred . ($)
- Dusty Baker will come out of retirement to manage the World Baseball Classic.
