This time last year, that wouldn’t have felt possible
Happy Wednesday, everyone. Quiet news day, but still plenty to get into as we look at the Tigers’ incredible record; what’s working well for Tyler Holton; whether the Twins could make a pushback; and some crazy usher antics at a Pirates’ game.
Let’s just jump right into it.
Detroit Tigers News:
- This is just delightful.

- Jason Beck shared that Tigers’ reliever Tyler Holton is trending in the right direction . In his newsletter, he shared that Holton said:
“I think my execution can definitely be better. I think the more you get out there, the better you feel. I definitely think at the end of the day, the details are in the execution. And at times I haven’t felt great. Sometimes you miss a spot or a pitch goes wide and you try to get back in the zone. It’s baseball. You take one pitch at a time. But body feels good. I like the way the ball’s coming out.”
The entire story is a really good read if you want some insight into the lefty reliever, and what A.J. Hinch thinks of him.
AL Central News:
- The White Sox continue to find new and embarrassing ways to lose baseball games.
- Bobby Witt Jr. played off his walk-off heroics as just “doing my part” for the Royals.
- MLB dot com suggests if the Twins can overcome injury concerns, they may still play a decent season , however, they point out one massive hurdle for Minnesota:
The larger issue is that the rest of the division is playing so well; in the past, being five games under .500 this early wouldn’t drop you so low, but now, with the way the Tigers, Guardians and Royals are playing, you can plummet fast. It all comes down to whether those teams fall back a bit, and if the Twins can get keep their everyday lineup together. That might be wishful thinking. But in the past, it has been wishful thinking that has worked.
MLB News:
- The Yankees’ pitching woes continue, despite some hot hitters.
- This is genuinely insane.
