In news you probably already knew.
Hello friends, we’re right back at Monday again, and what a weekend it was. While the Tigers dropped their series opener to the Twins, they rebounded to win the next two games and take the series win, with an especially dazzling outing by Tarik Skubal on Sunday evening’s ESPN broadcast. Just showing off for the nationally televised game.
The Tigers are now in the latter half of their season, which feels impossible to imagine, and as of this writing, they have the same record as the Dodgers.
The Tigers are off today, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have a weekend worth if news to catch up on (and fun new shirt from BreakingT), so let’s just jump right into it.
Detroit Tigers News:
- That’s our Skubal.
- And this was the pitching lineup the Tigers featured on Friday.
Ballgame. Tigers 8, Athletics 0.
Check out the pitchers DET used today:
Dietrich Enns – Spent 3 years in Japan/KBO
Brenan Hanifee – Minor-league FA
Tyler Holton – DFA’d by the D-Backs
Chase Lee – Sidearm walk-on at Alabama
Will Vest – 12th rd pick, once a Mariners Rule 5 pick— Cody Stavenhagen (@CodyStavenhagen) June 26, 2025
- Gleyber Torres is currently leading All-Star voting for AL second basemen , and the final vote will begin on Monday.
Tigers fans rocked the vote in Phase 1 as three of their hometown favorites advanced to Phase 2, tying the Yankees for the most players from any AL club. Torres has enjoyed a resurgent season in Detroit, highlighted by a career-high .280 average, and an .803 OPS that would be his highest since 2019, when he last made the All-Star team. Torres’ success can also be seen in his expected stats. His .520 expected slugging percentage is a massive leap from his .368 mark with the Yankees last season.
Riley Greene and Javier Baez will also be competing to see if they will join sure-think selectee Aaron Judge in the Atlanta outfield at the All-Star Game. They’ll be up against Mike Trout and Steven Kwan.
- Our friends at BreakingT have released a new Tarik Skubal-themed shirt, and it’s got a funny Scooby-Doo vibe.

AL Central News:
- This might be one of the strangest base steals we’ve ever seen.
- Of course, this being the White Sox, they also managed to have the strangest out call at home.
MLB News:
- The fan who cruelly heckled Ketel Marte has been permanently banned by MLB.
- A verdict in the Wander Franco case has been announced. MLB’s corresponding response hasn’t been announced yet, but Franco is currently on the restricted list for failure to report. This new criminal record would make it almost impossible for Franco to get a work visa to play baseball in America, so we can expect a ban or response of some kind to come from MLB in the coming days.
BREAKING: Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Wander Franco was found guilty of sexual abuse of a minor in the Dominican Republic for an illegal sexual relationship with a 14-year-old girl when he was 21. He received a two-year prison sentence, according to @JuanRecioM .
