He’s just that good.
Happy mid-week, everyone. The Tigers opened their homestand against the A’s last night after a bit of a delay. While Tarik Skubal got off to a bit of a rocky start (but thankfully not a Rockies start), both Skubal and the team rebounded from an early lead to the A’s to come back and take a win. The 50th win of the season, no less. Ideally, they’ll do the same tonight with a little less early drama to contend with.
In the meantime, we’ve got lots of good news bites for you, from some roster moves, to an in-depth look at how the Tigers position their outfield, to what Tarik Skubal had to say about his future free agency. We also take a look at how good Riley Greene is, even with those strikeouts.
Let’s get right into it.
Detroit Tigers News:
- FanGraphs gets into why strikeouts aren’t a dealbreaker for Riley Greene . Here’s a little snippet of the article:
When Riley Greene debuted in 2022, he had a tiny bit of a strikeout problem. His overall line – .253/.321/.362 in cavernous Comerica Park – was roughly league average, but it would have been better than that if he had struck out less than 28.7% of the time. Over the subsequent two years, he reined that issue in some: 27.4% in 2023 and 26.7% in 2024. He also got better at the plate while doing so. And this year, he’s off to a scorching start, .291/.345/.530 with a career-best 145 wRC+. So he conquered the strikeout demons, right? Wrong. He’s striking out a ghastly 30.7% of the time. This requires further explanation.

- ESPN ranked potential trade candidates . Of those they suggested for Detroit, they singled out Alex Bregman, Eugenio Suarez, Marcell Ozuna, Felix Bautista, Ryan McMahon, Pete Fairbanks (yes please), Aroldia Chapman (no thank you), Nolan Arenado, and Ryan Helsley. A lot of these are guys who are just being mentioned in every trade conversation, but of the names there obviously Bregman and Fairbanks are among the most enticing.
- This is an absolutely fascinating article looking at how the Tigers are one of the best teams in baseball when it comes to positioning their outfielders .
- Tarik Skubal had a very diplomatic response to being asked about his future free agency.
AL Central News:
- Interesting choice.
White Sox have agreed to terms on a minor league contract with RHP Noah Syndergaard. He has reported to the complex in Glendale. He last pitched in the majors with the Dodgers and Guardians in 2023.

Here’s a bit more detail on that singing.
MLB News:
- This pitch is disgusting, but I’m also super distracted by how those Twins uniforms make it look like the Brewers are pitching against themselves.
