And the Tigers have some real contenders.
All-Star season is upon us, and it seems like the Tigers have a very good chance of getting some high-performing names on the roster. While it all comes down to votes for the starting lineup, there is certainly no question Tarik Skubal will be selected as one of the AL pitchers.
The lengthy rain delay of last night’s game might have put a damper (pun intended, sue me!) on many fans’ nights, there’s so much to be excited about with this team and seeing them represented in the All-Star Game would be a lot of fun.
Let’s get into today’s news, all about All-Star picks, trade speculation, and much more.
Detroit Tigers News:
- Here’s how Sawyer Gipson-Long’s call-up worked.
RHP Sawyer Gipson-Long has been activated off of the 60-day injured list and will start tonight’s game at the Chicago White Sox.
RHP Dylan Smith has been optioned to Triple-A Toledo.
To make room for Gipson-Long on the 40-man roster, RHP Jason Foley has been recalled from…

- All-Star Voting is here! MLB dot com broke down some stories to watch as the voting unfolds, and of the Tigers, they pointed out that Detroit has a bit of a vote-getting problem…
It will be interesting to see how much support the Tigers’ position players receive as balloting gets underway. Detroit has raced out to the best record in baseball, but it has done so without the kind of star power that usually dominates All-Star ballots, relying on a well-rounded lineup lacking headline-grabbing names.
- Looking at All-Star voting, have a read through the Athletic’s breakdown of who should make the All-Star team . Their American League picks include Spencer Torkelson, Gleyber Torres (as a starter, no less!), Riley Greene, and of course, Tarik Skubal.
- It’s also never too soon to start thinking about trade time, and Jeff Passan has an interesting fit for the Tigers: Bo Bichette. He said of the potential trade :
While conventional wisdom suggests the Tigers could use another high-octane bullpen arm to secure outs at the end of the game, renting Bichette’s services before he hits free agency would infuse the lineup with the sort of bat Trey Sweeney simply doesn’t yet wield. Bichette’s gap-to-gap power would play well at Comerica Park and lengthen a lineup that has scored more runs than anticipated.

This is what the proposed seven-story office for Fenway Sports Group on Landsdowne would look like if it gets accepted.
It’d be between the Cask ’n Flagon and the House of Blues.
