Houston Texans safety Jaylen Reed was the victim of an armed robbery at his home.
The rookie sixth-round draft pick returned from a multi-week, injury-related absence in time for the Texans’ win over the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC Wild Card, and the team’s focus is on the football field and their tilt against the New England Patriots in the AFC Divisional Playoffs.
But this matter moves into the spotlight following its revelation and amid an ongoing investigation.
Report: Texans S Jaylen Reed Robbed

KPRC 2’s Aaron Wilson reported in an article on Wednesday that court documents identified Reed as the victim of the “terrifying incident.”
Moreover, the incident took place nearly two weeks ago.
“The Texans player had reportedly just pulled into his garage when three masked men dressed in black confronted him and pointed rifles at him, according to court documents,” Wilson wrote on January 14.
“Investigators say the suspects demanded ‘everything he had in the house,’ although available documents did not confirm whether or not anything from inside the home was taken.”
Wilson reported that police apprehended one of the three suspects after a chase.
“The arrested suspect was identified as Montreal Dwayne Frye, 20. He is charged with felony evading arrest or detention with a vehicle and felony unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, according to Harris County court records. His bond has been set at $500,000 on each charge, totaling $1 million, and he remains in jail,” Wilson wrote.
“Court records show Frye was already on felony probation at the time of the alleged robbery. In April 2025, he received deferred adjudication for felony evading arrest with a vehicle related to a Nov. 2024 incident in Harris County.”
Prosecutors noted Frye’s history while seeking a “high bond,” Wilson noted, adding that authorities believe Reed was targeted due to his prominence as a professional athlete.
Jaylen Reed Avoided Serious Injury

The robbery notably occurred while Reed was on injured reserve , recovering from surgery to repair a damaged metal plate that was in his forearm from a previous incident.
He suffered the new injury during his first start in Week 13 against the Indianapolis Colts .
Reed endured another injury scare last week, during the Texans’ win over the Steelers, exiting briefly in the first quarter. The broadcast noted that he was riding a bike in between defensive series. He returned to the field on the following possession.
Even more encouraging for the Texans, Reed was a full participant in practice on Wednesday. That is despite dealing with what the Texans have called a knee injury.
That Reed did not reinjure his forearm is also encouraging.
Reed has had an eventful beginning to his career as a starter in the NFL . He suffered an absence-inducing injury in his first. And then, he overcame a knee injury to help the Texans log their first-ever road playoff victory. This, all while being the victim of a robbery in that span.
Sunday’s contest could be another eventful day for Reed and the Texans. They are looking to make the first AFC Championship Game in franchise history.
