Scores, news, and notes from the Detroit Tigers farm system for Wednesday, June 25, 2025.
Charlotte Knights 4, Toledo Mud Hens 3 (F/10)(box )
The Hens got pretty solid pitching but wasted too many opportunities to score runs in an extra innings loss on Wednesday.
Reese Olson hit the second batter he faced and allowed a two-run shot to the third, and then was entirely dominant on Wednesday night. He threw 49 of 74 pitches for strikes, but just wasn’t quite getting the whiffs and weak contact you’d expect of him facing Triple-A level competition. Still his velocity was fine and he used his changeup effectively. You can expect him to take his next turn in the Detroit Tigers rotation.
The offense didn’t get much going until the sixth inning when Gage Workman doubled in Ryan Kreidler and then scored later on a Riley Unroe double. That tied the game and eventually sent them to extra innings after strong relief outings from Matt Manning, Beau Brieske, and Drew Sommers.
Ryan Miller allowed a pair of runs on a two-run shot in the top of the tenth. Jace Jung doubled in Brewer Hicklen in the bottom half, but that was all they’d get.

Coming Up Next: It’s a 7:05 p.m. ET start with the series locked at a game apiece on Thursday.
Erie SeaWolves 9, Somerset Patriots 3 (box )
Austin Burhenn put together a good start and the SeaWolves’ offense had more than enough to put away the Patriots on Wednesday.
After Burhenn allowed a run in the top of the first, his teammates got right to work. Justice Bigbie and Carlos Mendoza walked with one out in the second inning. Jim Jarvis singled in Bigbie to tie the game, and Trei Cruz followed with a walk. Then a catcher’s interference allowed Thayron Liranzo to reach, and another run to score. 2-1 Erie. It became a 4-1 lead when Max Anderson doubled in Jarvis and Cruz. Liranzo was thrown out at home to end the play and the inning.
In the fifth, Jake Holton singled with one out and Chris Meyers was hit by a pitch. Bigbie doubled them both in for a 6-1 lead and Mendoza was then hit by a pitch. Eliezer Alfonzo’s double made it 7-1 before the inning ended.
Burhenn allowed a run in the fifth before giving way to RJ Petit, who was good. Jordan Marks gave up a run in the eighth, but Meyers and Mendoza each had RBI doubles in the top of the ninth to fully put this one away.
Anderson: 2-5, R, 2 RBI, 2B
Bigbie: 3-3, 2 R, 2 RBI, 2B, 2 BB
Mendoza: 1-2, R, RBI, 2B, 2 BB
Burhenn (W, 8-1): 5.0 IP, 2 ER 3 H, BB, 4 K
Coming Up Next: It’s a 6:35 p.m. ET start as the SeaWolves look to make it three in a row over Somerset.
West Michigan Whitecaps 9, Lake County Captains 6 (box )
You can almost guess at this point. On this night it was Izaac Pacheco and Peyton Graham backing up Kevin McGonigle, who punished Captains pitching en route to victory on Wednesday.
Jordan Balazovic started things off with a scoreless rehab inning. Sean Guenther allowed a couple of hits and a run in the second inning. Then Andrew Sears took over for three innings of pretty impressive ball, while Haden Erbe and CJ Weins closed this one out.
A five run third inning for the Whitecaps was the difference in this one. Peyton Graham and Patrick Lee started off with singles, with Graham scoring. Lee stole second to put both in scoring position, and Bennett Lee was and Seth Stephenson walked to load the bases. McGonigle walked to force in a run and later in the inning the big blow was an Izaac Pacheco double that made it 5-1 Whitecaps.
Sears gave up a run in the fourth, but McGonigle led off the fifth inning with a solo shot to make it 6-2. Tyler Mattison’s rehab appearance went poorly with three runs allowed, and Erbe allowed a run in the seventh that tied the game 6-6.

CJ Weins shut down the Captains in the eighth and ninth. A two-run single from McGonigle in the ninth was the difference. Single from John Peck and Josue Briceño followed to make it 9-6, where it ended.

Lakeland Flying Tigers 7, Clearwater Threshers 1 (box )
Luke Stofel threw a good game and the Flying Tigers got contributions from all over the lineup in this one.
Stofel threw six innings of one run ball, walking just one and striking out five. By then the Flygers had a 3-1 lead already. Singles from Carson Rucker, Sergio Tapia, and Abel Bastidas produced a run in the second. In the third, Jackson Strong led off with a double and Franyerber Montilla walked. Garrett Pennington mashed a ground rule double to left center field that scored Strong. A Cristian Santana sacrifice fly plated Montilla.
