Scores, news, and notes from around the Detroit Tigers’ farm system for Wednesday, July 9, 2025.
Omaha Storm Chasers 13, Toledo Mud Hens 7 (box )
The Mud Hens offense had a good night, but the pitching staff did not as the Storm Chasers evened up the series at a game apiece.
The Hens got right on the board as Hao-Yu Lee singled in the first inning and scored on a Justyn-Henry Malloy doubled. It was all Storm Chasers from there as starters Nick Margevicius was knocked around for seven runs. Relievers Woo-Suk Go and Jordan Balazovic didn’t do any better, surrendering two and three runs apiece in the middle innings.
A two-run shot from Akil Baddoo in the fifth was only enough to make it 8-3 Omaha. A three-run rally for the Hens in the seventh made it 12-6 after the bullpen’s struggles. Bailey Horn allowed a run in the seventh, while Andy Ibáñez singled in Jace Jung in the ninth to finish the scoring in this one.

Erie SeaWolves 3, Harrisburg Senators 2 (F/5)(box )
The SeaWolves built an early lead in this one and it held up just long enough for the game to be official before rain washed out the late innings.
Erie struck first when Jake Holton walked with two outs in the top of the second inning and rode home on Chris Meyers’ seventh home run of the year. 2-0 SeaWolves.

Austin Bergner gave up a run in the bottom of the inning, but Max Clark came through with his first Double-A home run in the top of the third. That one left his bat at 108 mph and the recent uptick in power has carried through to Erie already.

Meyers: 2-2, R, 2 RBI, HR
Clark: 1-3, R, RBI, HR
Bergner (W, 6-4): 5.0 IP, 2 ER, 4 H, 3 BB, 6 K

West Michigan Whitecaps 10, Lake County Captains 9 (box )
The Whitecaps pitching staff had a rare rough night, but the offense erupted for an eight-run sixth inning that allowed them enough margin to hang on and win again on Wednesday.
The ‘Caps took an early lead when Woody Hadeen was hit by a pitch in the bottom of the first. John Peck singled him first to third, and he scored on an Izaac Pacheco sacrifice fly.
Starter Joe Miller allowed a run in the top of the second, but in the bottom half Austin Murr led off with a double and took third on an infield single from Patrick Lee. An Archer Brookman ground out scored Murr to make it 2-1, but but it was all Captains for the next few innings.
Miller allowed a run in the top of the third with the aid of a Peck throwing error. He gave up two more in the fourth and Marco Jimenez took over to finish the inning, then allowed a solo shot in the fifth. Dariel Fregio settled things down with a scoreless top of the sixth, but it was 5-2 Captains entering the bottom of the sixth.
Hadeen walked to start the inning, and Peck and Pacheco struck out. The Whitecaps went on to an eight-run rally with two outs. Garrett Pennington singled and Murr walked to load the bases. Peyton Graham cleared them with a triple on a line drive down the third base line that tipped off the Captains’ third baseman’s glove. The relay in nearly got Murr at the plate, but he was called safe and the Captains waxed sorely pissed, with their catcher slamming his mask on the ground in the umpire’s face. Captains manager Omir Santos came in to save his catcher and got tossed instead.
The Whitecaps were just warming up though. Patrick Lee singled in Graham and then stole second and third base. Archer Brookman singled him in and Seth Stephenson followed with a single of his own. Hadeen cam up to bat again and walked to load the bases. A two-run single followed from Peck, and with Hadeen on third an errant pickoff throw scored him too and made it 10-5 Whitecaps.

Fregio allowed a solo shot to Jose Devers in the top of the seventh, and Micah Ashman had a very rare bad day on the mound. He allowed three runs on four hits in the top of the eighth. Preston Howey came in to escape any further damage, and then closed it out in the ninth for his fourth save of the year.
Peck: 2-4, 2 RBI, BB, 2 K
Pennington: 3-4, R, 2B
Graham: 1-3, R, 3 RBI, 3B, BB, K
Lee: 2-4, R, RBI, K, 2 SB

Coming Up Next: It’s a 6:35 p.m. ET start on Thursday night.
Tampa Tarpons 7, Lakeland Flying Tigers 1 (box )
One rough inning doomed Luke Stofel’s start, and the bullpen leaked some late runs on a quiet day for the Flying Tigers’ offense.
Stofel gave up a three-run rally in the bottom of the second. He walked four and struck out four, but he did settled back in to pitch through the fifth with no further trouble. He’s been very good for the Flying Tigers and still holds a 1.34 ERA after this outing.
Meanwhile, Franyerber Montilla doubled with two outs in the top of the first but was stranded. The Flying Tigers didn’t have another baserunner until the sixth. With two outs, Jackson Strong and then Montilla walked, and a Stephen Hrustich single scored Strong to make it 3-1 Tampa at that point.
Duque Hebbert took over in the sixth, and he allowed two runs, one earned, with a Carson Rucker error contributing. Jorger Petri gave up two in the seventh, and the Flying Tigers never threatened a comeback.
Montilla: 1-3, 2B, BB, 2 K
Strong: 0-2, R, 2 BB, 2 K
Stofel (L, 5-1): 3 ER, 5 H, 4 BB, 4 K
Coming Up Next: It’s a 6:30 p.m. ET start on Thursday.
