Lakeland pummels Fort Myers on a day with rain outs across the system

May 21, 2025 by Bless You Boys

Scores, news, and notes from around the Detroit Tigers’ farm system for Tuesday May 20, 2025.

Toledo Mud Hens vs. Indianapolis Indians (postponed)

They were rained out on Tuesday in Toledo. The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Thursday. Wednesday’s game is still set for 11:05 a.m. ET.

Tigers center fielder Parker Meadows is set to begin his rehab appearance with the Mud Hens this week.

Erie SeaWolves 5, Hartford Yard Goats 0 (box )

Lefty Carlos Pena tossed a good game on Tuesday and the SeaWolves got production from most of their big bats to take the first of six.

Pena three-hit the Goats over five scoreless innings. He struck out five and walked just one, departing with a three-run lead.

Things didn’t off to a very auspicious start for the offense. Trei Cruz led off the bottom of the first with a double and took third on a Max Anderson single. With no outs, things looked good but Thayron Liranzo and Jake Holton both went down swinging, and Carlos Mendoza flew out to complete the squander.

They hit pay dirt in the second when Roberto Campos walked and stole second with one out. Eduardo Valencia doubled to right field to score him. In the third, Liranzo singled with one out and took second on a Holton ground out. Mendoza doubled in Liranzo and then scored on a Justice Bigbie single to make it 3-0.

Andrew Magno took over from Pena in the sixth and spun two scoreless innings with just a hit and a walk allowed. RJ Petit was even better, tossing two perfect frames with three strikeouts to lock this one up.

In the seventh, Cruz doubled again and scored on an Eliezer Alfonzo single. In the eighth, it was Mendoza again. He singled to lead off the inning and then took second on a wild pitch. A single from Bigbie moved him to third, where he scored on a Campos ground out for a little insurance.

Cruz: 2-3, R, 2 2B, BB

Mendoza: 2-4, 2 R, RBI, 2B

Bigbie: 2-4, RBI

Pena (W, 1-2): 5.0 IP, 0 R, 3 H, BB, 5 K

Coming Up Next: It’s an early start for the SeaWolves on Wednesday with first pitch set for 11:05 a.m. ET.

West Michigan Whitecaps vs. Great Lakes Loons (postponed)

They were rained out in West Michigan as well. They’ll play a doubleheader starting at 11:00 a.m. ET on Wednesday instead. Joe Miller will take on the Loons RHP Cam Day in Game 1.

Long lost Tigers relief prospect RHP Freddy Pacheco has been assigned to the Whitecaps as he works his way back from injuries that cost him the past two seasons.

Detroit Tigers ’ top prospects Kevin McGonigle and Josue Briceno have both rejoined Max Clark as they come off the injured list with Whitecaps this week.

The Freddy Pacheco rehab tour continues as he heads to West Michigan.

Lakeland Flying Tigers 13, Fort Myers Mighty Mussels 3 (box )

The Flying Tigers pounded out 11 hits and drew five walks on Tuesday to win comfortably over the Mussels.

Bryce Rainer started things off in the top of the first with an infield single. He then stole second and third base. Franyerber Montilla walked and stole second base, while Jackson Strong was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Carson Rucker walked to force in the first run, while a Ricardo Hurtado single drove in two runs. Cristian Santana added an RBI single to plate Rucker, and it was 4-0 Lakeland after one.

Hayden Minton got the start. A sloppy first inning from his defense, included two errors on Bryce Rainer, made for a rough go but he escaped without allowing a run. He did allow one in the top of the second, but in the bottom half the Flying Tigers kept pouring it on at the plate.

Woody Hadeen was hit to start the inning and stole second. Rainer walked and then they broke out a successful double steal. A Jackson Strong triple into the right field corner scored them both, and Strong was then balked in for the seventh run for Lakeland. The Flying Tigers went on to score two more in the inning for a 9-1 lead.
