Kings Weak Trade Package For Ja Morant Revealed

January 11, 2026 by Heavy

The Sacramento Kings are one of the rumored teams interested in acquiring Ja Morant from the Memphis Grizzlies. Recent reports have confirmed that Memphis will be fielding offers to find the best possible package for Morant if one stands out ahead of the trade deadline. Sacramento has been involved in rumors of almost every major name on the trade block to improve their roster moving forward.

Marc Stein revealed that the Kings have their offer out there, but they don’t feel confident in Memphis wanting it:

“The Kings, meanwhile, are generally painted as a team that does not intend to pursue Morant. However, I must confess that some chatter to the contrary over the weekend has circulated suggesting that Sacramento’s position could change if Memphis was prepared to accept a package headlined by DeMar DeRozan, Devin Carter and some level of draft capital.”

The trade package features an established player in DeMar DeRozan, a young Devin Carter and a draft pick. Unfortunately, the Grizzlies do seem less likely to accept this package. DeRozan doesn’t fit their timeline, and Carter has not shown enough to become a valuable trade asset. The draft picks would likely be protected to avoid losing on a high lottery pick to have Sacramento already skeptical of having a chance at Morant.

Ja Morant’s Trade Value Is Confusing

Trae Young recently got traded for a veteran guard’s expiring contract and a role player with no draft picks involved to show how unpredictable the trade market is right now. Teams looking to move on from players with big contracts and recent struggles may have to settle for lesser deals like the Atlanta Hawks did.

Morant’s value is certainly lower than it was a couple of years ago when he looked like he’d become one of the faces of the league. However, it is hard to envision Memphis trading him without getting at least a couple of assets they believe in.

Opposing teams should offer at least one unprotected draft pick, which could present a scenario for Sacramento. The Kings are set against trading this year’s pick since they are on pace to have high odds for the top overall pick.

Who Has Better Ja Morant Offers?

Morant stands out as an interesting name on the trade block since multiple scenarios make sense for acquiring him. A contending team like the Minnesota Timberwolves could take the gamble on making him the final piece to put them over the hump as a title contender.

The Brooklyn Nets represent a rebuilding team that could see their next star come early if they have a realistic deal on the table. Many teams around the league have one of these two situations to ensure that Morant will have more offers than Young did.

Memphis still holds all the power, but the team looking to move Morant before he requested a trade confirmed that both sides may realize the time has come. Morant is likely to be traded by the deadline since the Grizzlies choose to field offers now rather than waiting out the season. Sacramento unfortunately falls just short unless they change their stance on the trade offer.
