Scores, news, and notes from the Detroit Tigers’ farm system for Saturday, June 7, 2025.
Columbus Clippers 2, Toledo Mud Hens 1 (box )
Nick Margevicius threw a good game but the Clippers were able to stretch out a pair of runs against the Hens bullpen to take a four to one lead in the series.
The Hens started out looking like they were going to do damage. With one out, Justyn-Henry Malloy walked and then stole second. Jace Jung doubled him in and Andy Ibáñez singled off the pitcher’s glove. Unfortunately he was then thrown out at second and Brewer Hicklen lined out to end the inning.
Meanwhile Margevicius was cruising. He tossed five scoreless innings though he had to pitch through plenty of traffic. He struck out four, but he allowed seven hits and a pair of walks.
Ricky Vanasco took over in the sixth and allowed a walk and a two-run homer. Matt Manning took over from there and was lights out, tossing two perfect frames with two strikeouts. However, the Clippers bullpen did good work and totally shut the Hens down over the final four innings without a hit.
Malloy: 2-2, R, 2 BB
Kreidler: 1-2, 2B, 2 BB
Margevicius: 5.0 IP, 0 R, 7 H, 2 BB, 4 K

Erie SeaWolves 4, Richmond Flying Squirrels 2 (box )
Carlos Pena gave up a pair of early runs and then settled in while the SeaWolves offense took over in the middle innings to take a four to one lead in the series on Saturday.
Pena wasn’t striking many out, but after allowing a pair of runs in the top of the second, he locked it down and finished with four scoreless frames for a very solid outing.
Max Anderson singled in the first, and the SeaWolves drew a pair of walks in the third, but the offense wasn’t doing much until they broke through to take the lead in the fifth.
Eliezer Alfonzo was behind the dish in this one and he sparked a rally with a leadoff walk. Brady Allen strafed a hard grounder to left for a double, and Alfonzo scored on a Trei Cruz ground out. Carlos Mendoza flew out to center, but Anderson stepped to the dish and mashed home run number nine on the year to take a 3-2 lead.

Coming Up Next: It’s a 1:35 p.m. ET start in Erie on Sunday.
Lake County Captains 6, West Michigan Whitecaps 1 (box )
The Whitecaps had a rare bad day at the plate, and Rayner Castillo was rocked for five runs as his rough season continues.
Castillo was a fast rising prospect last year, but so far this season his velocity has been down and he isn’t pounding the strike zone with much consistency either. He gave up a run in the second inning and then was lit up for a pair of two-run homers in the third.
Meanwhile, the high flying Whitecaps offense couldn’t muster even the hint of a threat until the seventh inning when Josue Briceño was hit by a pitch and Izaac Pacheco walked. Peyton Graham singled in a run and he and Pacheco advanced 90 feet on an error in left field on the play. Austin Murr and Luke gold struck out to strand them.
Seth Stephenson singled and Max Clark was hit by a pitch in the bottom of the eighth with one out. Again, not much came of it as John Peck lined out and Briceño struck out.
Murr: 2-4, K
Graham: 1-3, RBI, BB, K
Castillo (L, 1-3): 3.0 IP, 5 ER, 6 H, 0 BB, 3 K
Coming Up Next: The Whitecaps need a win at 2:00 p.m. ET on Sunday to split the series and avoid their first series loss since the last time they played Lake County back in early May.
Lakeland Flying Tigers 6, Daytona Tortugas 0 (box )
Josh Randall got back on track with a gem and big games from Carson Rucker, Jackson Strong, and Stephen Hrustich powered the offense to victory.
Randall has been in a funk the past few starts but he bounced back with 5 1⁄3 scoreless innings with seven strikeouts against six hits and two walks to lead the Flying Tigers in this one.
Stephen Hrustich opened the scoring in the second by leading off with a solo shot for his second homer since being signed out of Indy ball in mid-May. Carson Rucker followed with a single, and after Abel Bastidas lined out, Richard Hurtado walked. Sergio Tapia struck out, but a wild pitch advanced both runners and Jackson Strong doubled them both in for a 3-0 lead.

In the fifth they got another run when Cristian Santana led off with a double and later scored on Rucker’s double. In the sixth, Tapia led off with a walk and Franyerber Montilla singled after Strong struck out. A passed ball advanced both runners as Santana struck out swinging. Garrett Pennington singled in both runs to make it 6-0.
