Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen didn’t tiptoe around what’s coming when his team sees the Denver Broncos.
Allen delivered a full-throated warning about Denver’s defense, and he made sure to spotlight the Broncos’ biggest star in the secondary while he was at it.
“They’ve got some absolute studs over there,” Allen said when asked about Denver on film. “They rush the passer extremely well… interior they’re again some big stout guys that can really push the pocket… and they can stop the run in the back end too.”
Then came the line that Broncos fans will love, and Bills fans will read as a flashing red light.
“A guy like Pat Surtain…,” Allen said, adding that Denver’s top corner is “an absolutely fantastic football player,” and saying Buffalo will have its “hands full” making sure it’s “getting to the right checks” and “the right calls.”
Allen even referred to Surtain as “defensive player of the year last year,” a reminder of the level of respect Denver’s No. 1 cover man commands, whether it’s award-season accurate or not.
Josh Allen’s Broncos Message Was Simple: Don’t Help Them
Allen’s tone wasn’t casual praise. It was closer to a quarterback admitting this is a matchup where one bad decision can flip the game.
“We can’t give them any help,” Allen said. “That’s a good team over there.”
That’s the kind of quote that fits a Broncos-centric angle perfectly: Denver’s defense doesn’t need gifts, but if it gets them — a protection bust, a late throw, a forced ball into coverage — it can turn the day into a long one.
Allen made it clear Buffalo’s offense is thinking about process and precision: checks, calls, execution, and “playing for each other.” That’s what you say when the opponent can disrupt your rhythm without blitzing every snap.
Bills’ Injury Chaos at Receiver Adds Heat to the Broncos Matchup
The other part of this story is why Allen’s Denver comments matter even more right now: Buffalo is dealing with major uncertainty at wide receiver.
“Obviously not an ideal situation,” Allen said, when asked about his receiver room taking multiple hits. He said whoever is up has to “step up,” and stressed that practice timing and communication will be “very important” to get everyone “on the same page.”
That’s a big deal against a defense with a pass rush Allen already labeled as a problem, and a corner like Surtain who can shrink the field and force quarterbacks to hold the ball or work away from their first read.
Allen also raved about a veteran receiver helping stabilize things, pointing to “Brandin Cooks and describing a 36-yard connection as proof of strong communication and trust. Allen said the receiver’s longevity comes from being “a very smart football player,” adding that they installed a check “three or four days before the game” and he executed it.
If Buffalo is piecing together roles on the fly, Denver’s ability to pressure the pocket and clamp down outside becomes even more central.
One More Broncos Edge Allen Admitted Is Real
Allen also acknowledged what every visiting team talks about, without wanting to talk about it: altitude.
“I know from firsthand experience it is an advantage,” Allen said, while adding the key is not “making it a problem” and just doing the job.
That’s another subtle Broncos-centric boost: if Denver can make Buffalo’s offense play longer drives and take more snaps under stress, it compounds everything Allen just admitted.
