The two American League Central foes will battle it out in Cleveland this weekend.
The Detroit Tigers were not as sharp as the fans would have liked to have seen this past week in the nation’s capital, dropping a three-game series two games to one after a lackadaisical performance in the finale on Thursday night. After being saddled with an 11-7 loss , the team now moves on to the next opponent in the second leg of the road trip.
That opponent is the Cleveland Guardians , who welcome them to Progressive Field this weekend for a three-gamer starting on Friday — which is Independence Day for those residing in the United States of America. They are just 2-8 over their last 10 games, which includes a current seven-game losing streak with recent sweeps at the hands of the St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Cubs , respectively.
The Tigers, meanwhile, have cooled off a bit but still have won six of the past 10; however, they are now two games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers for the best record in baseball. Still, Detroit’s 12.5-game lead in the American League Central over both Cleveland and the Minnesota Twins remains the largest margin in MLB.
On the Fourth of July, AJ Hinch sends Reese Olson — who makes his much-anticipated return from the injured list — to the bump while Stephen Vogt has Slade Cecconi taking the hill. Here is how the two match up.
