After defending its home field against the Chicago Cubs, Detroit continues a stretch of oscillating home and away series.
The Detroit Tigers got a breather on Monday after taking two of three from the Chicago Cubs last weekend inside Comerica Park. Now, they hit the road for a brief three-game set against the Baltimore Orioles this week.
Last week, the O’s swept the Seattle Mariners out west before dropping two of three at the Athletics in Sacramento over the weekend. They come into play ranked 21st in OPS (.691) and 27th in ERA (5.06), illustrating how much is left to be desired from the team on both sides of the ball.
Meanwhile, Detroit still owns the best record in all of baseball, but its lead has been whittled down to just a half-game over the New York Mets . However, the American League Central lead is now stretched out to seven games over the Minnesota Twins .
For the opener on Tuesday afternoon, the Tigers send Sawyer Gipson-long to the mound while the Orioles have yet to decide on who they want to throw, with TBD listed as of the time of publication. Here is a quick look at Gipson-Long’s numbers so far this season.
UPDATE: AJ Hinch changed his mind and decided that Brant Hurter will open the game up on the bump, while Brandon Hyde finally picked Cade Povich to take the hill for the home team.
