Detroit kicks off the second half of its road trip out at the Gateway to the West against a familiar NL foe.
The Detroit Tigers added another series win to their 2025 achievements last weekend by taking two of three from the Toronto Blue Jays inside the Rogers Centre. On Sunday, they snuck by the Blue Birds, 3-2 , thanks to some heroics by Spencer Torkleson.
Now, AJ Hinch’s crew heads out to the Gateway of the West to take on the St. Louis Cardinals for the second three-game set of the current road swing starting on Monday. Detroit enters the weekday series with a two-game lead over the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Mets overall and a five-game lead over the Minnesota Twins in the Central Division.
Are the Tigers pulling away from the pack early? It looks like it, but they are dealing with some injuries that are expected to slow them down a little. However, this team just keeps winning.
Speaking of injuries, it would typically be Casey Mize’s turn in the rotation, but he is currently out with a tweaked left hamstring. Subsequently, the visitors have TBD listed as the starter as of the time of publication; while Keider Montero has filled in prior, it is highly probable that they will employ an opener/bullpen approach to Game 1 that still involves him somehow.
Meanwhile, the Cards send 13-year veteran Sonny Gray to the bump to defend the home field.
