After winning the first two series of the 10-game home stretch, Tigers look to defend their home turf against the Orioles.

The Detroit Tigers have won six of their eight series this season so far after taking two of three at home from one of the best teams in the major leagues, the San Diego Padres . The team earned a rubber match win on Wednesday before getting a breather on Thursday.

On Friday, AJ Hinch and Co. look to wrap up their 10-game homestand with a trio against the visiting Baltimore Orioles , who have struggled in the opening month amidst high expectations. The Birds currently reside in the American League East cellar, a half-game behind the Tampa Bay Rays .

Meanwhile, the Motor City Kitties are the current kings of the AL Central with a half-game lead over the Cleveland Guardians .

The Tigers will be sending a resurgent Casey Mize to the hill while the Orioles throw rookie Brandon Young to the wolves. Take a look below at how they match up.

Casey Mize and his spectacular 2025 campaign

Mize has been more or less lights out in three of his four appearances this season with just one blemish against the Minnesota Twins two starts ago. He still crossed the five-inning mark, tossing 5 2⁄3 frames but allowed four runs on seven hits (two home runs) and zero walks while striking out two for his lone loss.

In his other three appearances, he threw a pair of quality starts while allowing just a single run, including his most recent seven-inning effort against the Kansas City Royals , who tagged him for just a solo home run. The 27-year-old also started the season with 5 2⁄3 innings of shutout ball against the Seattle Mariners .

Brandon Young gets call-up from Triple-A

Young made his major league debut on Saturday as a starter for the O’s but it did not go well, allowing three runs on seven hits (one home run) and three walks while striking out three Cincinnati Reds over four frames in what turned out to be a 9-5 win for Baltimore. The rookie was subsequently sent down to Triple-A Norfolk afterward, but would not remain there for long.

Earlier in the week, the Orioles placed right-handed pitcher Cody Poteet on the 15-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation, bringing the 26-year-old Young back to the big leagues, where he will face the Tigers and their surprisingly potent offense on Friday.
