After splitting the first two games with San Diego, Detroit can still win the series with a victory.
The Detroit Tigers continue their 10-game homestand on Wednesday afternoon against the visiting San Diego Padres with a chance to earn another series win.
After splitting the first two games, including a 2-0 loss on Tuesday night, there is still a chance to prevail with the rubber match coming right up. However, AJ Hinch’s squad is one of five AL teams entering the day with 14 wins. Meanwhile, the Pads hold a one-game lead over the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League West and are tied with the New York Mets for the best record in all of baseball.

Reese Olson looks to build on recent start
It has not been all flowers and rainbows for the 25-year-old so far, oscillating between good and bad starts in his first four appearances. His last time out against the Kansas City Royals represents his best effort so far, even if it was a little bit abbreviated.
In that game, Olson threw five frames of shutout ball on four hits and two walks while striking out five for his second win of the 2025 campaign. His first win came on his only quality start two games prior against the Chicago White Sox .
Kyle Hart looks to make most of MLB stint
Prior to this season, the 32-year-old had only appeared in four big league games — all back in 2020 for the Boston Red Sox — before making his Padres debut on March 31. That five-inning effort as a starter against Cleveland earned him his first MLB win.
Hart then coughed up five runs in 2⁄3 innings next time out against the Chicago Cubs , before stymying the Colorado Rockies in a one-hit, scoreless six-inning effort for his second win. Then the ugly returned with another five-run offering — this time over five frames — against the Houston Astros for his first loss last time out.
