You have over 100 years of options to choose from
Happy Friday, everyone! The Tigers are in Toronto ready to take on the Blue Jays, but while we wait for the game to get going, let’s discuss a big topic (and one we will revisit for other positions throughout the season): who is the greatest Tigers’ pitcher of all-time?
Now, this question feels very relevant at the moment given the seemingly generational talent we are seeing every week from Tarik Skubal, who is certainly reminding us all of another incredible Tigers pitcher: Justin Verlander. There is no debate that Verlander was one of the all-time best pitchers the Tigers have ever had… but is he the best?
That’s what today’s open thread is here for you to decide. There are plenty of incredible pitchers in the Tigers history, from Skubal and Verlander to Hal Newhouser, Denny McLain, Max Scherzer, Jack Morris, Mark Fidrych, and hey, if you want to go deep into the vault, you have guys like Schoolboy Rowe who can come up in discussion (that’s not a joke, by the way, that guy went to three World Series with Detroit). Your opinion might be based on data, or whichever pitcher you loved the most growing up.
We won’t make you justify your choice with fWAR, but we do want to know why you think your selection is the GOAT.
