Right-handed reliever Jason Foley was placed on the injured list by Triple-A Toledo on Thursday.
The Detroit Tigers got some bad news recently when the Toledo Mud Hens sent last year’s primary closer Jason Foley to the injured list. The 29-year-old did not make the big league team out of spring training and began the season with their AAA affiliate.
Foley looked fine through his 6 2⁄3 frames of minor league ball but has not appeared in a game since April 12 after experiencing discomfort. According to team sources, he was dealing with a right shoulder strain that is apparently more severe than first expected.
“We’re getting him evaluated,” said Tigers manager A.J. Hinch.
“I feel for him because it comes at a time when he was starting to throw the ball pretty well and starting to look like the player we expected him to be this spring. Now he has this soreness. I always worry when you think of an arm injury with a pitcher, and we’re just going to wait for word on what that means — is it short-term or long-term? The doctors will let us know.”
So that is all we know about Foley so far. Hopefully, he can recover quickly and resume his role as a key cog in the Tigers’ bullpen as they vie for a second-straight postseason appearance.
