Unfortunately, this one won’t even be broadcast on the radio.
The Detroit Tigers head out on the road today to meet the Baltimore Orioles for a 1:05 p.m. ET start time. Unfortunately there will be neither television nor radio broadcast. That’s pretty frustrating, as the Tigers rookie wunderkind, Jackson Jobe, will toe the bump in his first Grapefruit League start of the season. We would like to see the new curveball in action, but it will have to wait a little longer. Hopefully we’ll at least get some Statcast data on the pitch.
The pitching plan for the Tigers were altered by Monday’s rain out at home against the Blue Jays. RHP Keider Montero, who, like Jobe, is in the mix for the starting rotation, was slated to start against the Blue Jays. Now he’ll follow Jobe in this one, with both pitchers presumably getting two innings of work apiece.
Left-hander Brant Hurter is set to follow those two, though he may only get one inning of work. Relievers Sean Guenther, Brenan Hanifee, and Chase Lee are all slated to work out of the bullpen, while non-roster invitee Ryan Miller is also set to make an appearance.
We’re interested to see the lineup, as Riley Greene, Kerry Carpenter, and Gleyber Torres haven’t been seen in action so far. Grapefruit League play did begin a few days earlier than last year, so there’s no rush
Update: Carpenter and Greene are in the lineup for this one.

Minor leaguers on the trip who may get into the game included southpaw reliever Andrew Magno, outfielder Ben Malgeri, and outfielder Patrick Lee, an athletic right-handed hitter who went undrafted and was signed by the Tigers last summer. Lee has speed, power, and a pretty good arm. He’s just not a good bet to hit at this point. Pitchers RHP Tim Naughton, RHP Troy Watson, and LHP Joe Adametz, will also be in the pen for relief purposes.
Jobe will take the mound against 41-year-old Charlie Morton in a real odd couple duel. Other Orioles pitchers scheduled to throw are old friend, LHP Gregory Soto and LHP Cionel Perez. RHP Dean Kremer, and RHP Seranthony Dominguez.
Tarik Skubal is set to start Wednesday’s home matchup against the Minnesota Twins . RHP Ty Madden is also scheduled to pitch in that one. Split squad action on Thursday will feature Jack Flaherty and Matt Manning, with Reese Olson likely to make his first start on Friday in Dunedin against the Blue Jays.
In injury news, Parker Meadows was dealing with a sore biceps after a throw last Saturday. They’re now calling it right upper arm inflammation. The Tigers planned to sit him down this week, and that still seems to be the plan for now.
SS Javier Báez is scheduled to run the bases on Wednesday as his final test before getting cleared to start playing games.
