Checking in on the ups and downs of the Tigers recent week of play.
Welcome to the weekend, friends, and a Happy Easter weekend to those who celebrate. The Tigers had a busy week, concluding a road trip in Milwaukee before heading home to take on division rivals, the Kansas City Royals.
The series against the Brewers was a bit rough on the Tigers as their bats fell silent in the latter two games and the pitching struggled in the latter two games. When they came back to Detroit the hope was they would bust their slump rather than letting it drag them into a downward spiral. And they did that, with two wins to open the series on Thursday and Friday, and two more games to come this weekend.
Monday, April 14 @ Milwaukee Brewers
Tigers 9, Brewers 1
A dazzling outing from Tarik Skubal, who was commanding through his performance, with bats that held up their end of the bargain.
Tuesday, April 15 @ Milwaukee Brewers
Brewers 5, Tigers 0
Jack Flaherty had his struggles in this outing, which seemed out of character for what we’ve been seeing from him this year. The only real highlight of this bummer shutout was the wildest out I’ve ever seen as a Tigers’ fan.
Wednesday, April 16 @ Milwaukee Brewers
Brewers 5, Tigers 1
Quiet bats did nothing to help a decent start from Keider Montero, but he did enough to earn himself a chance to stick around a little longer. The Tigers were certainly glad to wrap this up and head back home.
Thursday, April 16 vs. Kansas City Royals
Tigers 6, Royals 1
Headline: Riley Greene busts out of his slump with a three-hit game. Reese Olson came away with a win for five innings of solid work, getting himself out of some tense situations with no runs getting in while he was on the mound. Thankfully, this time around the Tigers’ bats were there to support their pitchers.
Friday, April 17 vs. Kansas City Royals
Tigers 7, Royals 3
Riley Greene continued to pummel the Royals for a second game. Jackson Jobe struggled out of the gate with a 25-pitch first inning, but he got his feet under him to collect a career-high five strikeouts. The rookie is certainly flashing quality, but he still has a lot to learn.
