Three of Detroit’s top four prospects played in the 2025 All-Star Futures Game
The Detroit Tigers ’ farm system is littered with talent, and the trio of Josue Briceno, Max Clark and Kevin McGonigle is at the top of every prospect nut’s list right now.
It was an easy call for MiLB to send the three to the All-Star Futures Game on Saturday, even though the American League ended up losing, 4-2. Two of the AL’s three hits on the day came from the Tigers, and all three players flashed their tools on a larger stage than minor league baseball is used to.
Clark went 1-for-1 with an infield single, a steal and a walk. The steal came on a slow and absent-minded delivery. The broadcast used it as a talking point for his “70-grade speed,” but it was his 4-second home-to-first time that turned more heads later on.
Defensively, Clark only saw one ball come his way, a double off the wall from JJ Weatherholt in the bottom of the first. The ball took a bad bounce off the base of the wall and sent Clark scrambling after it, but he didn’t truly misplay it. Clark came out of the game in the bottom of the fourth.

McGonigle also had a short day, checking out at the same time as Clark. The Tigers’ new No. 1 prospect, according to MLB Pipeline, went 0-for-2 with a pair of flyouts. He saw five pitches in total, two from lefty Thomas White in the third and three from Marquis Grissom Jr. in the fourth. He swung at four of the five pitches he saw, taking a borderline strike to open at-bat No. 2.
McGonigle got a few opportunities to show his glove before George Lombard Jr., the son of the Detroit bench coach, took over at shortstop in the fourth. He stuck the tag on a throwdown to catch Konnor Griffin stealing.
Griffin was in but slid off the bag, and McGonigle stayed on him to get the out. He also made the final out in the third, tossing the ball to Lombard at second. The only other time McGonigle came up was when LuJames Groover singled off pitcher Jurrangelo Cijntje. McGonigle collected the ball and made things close at first, but it was a base hit all the way.

Josue Briceno got to play the whole game, albeit at designated hitter instead of in the field. The Arizona Fall League phenom mashed his way through High-A, and he showed off the extra-base power at the Futures Game.
Briceno went 1-for-3 with a triple in the fourth inning. He scored on a sacrifice fly from Sebastian Walcott later on in the frame. Briceno also turned around a 95 mph fastball for a 103.2 mph lineout, the sixth-hardest hit ball of the day.
Standup triple for @Tigers No. 4 prospect Josue Briceño!
