The Toronto Blue Jays are hoping to take the lead with a win in Game 3 of the World Series on Monday night. After winning the first game with the help of a historic Grand Slam, they dropped Game 2 because they couldn’t solve the Los Angeles Dodgers ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
For Game 3, the Blue Jays hand the ball to Max Scherzer while the Dodgers counter with Tyler Glasnow. Here’s what Toronto is up against with Glasnow and how they are countering with Scherzer.
Tyler Glasnow is Having a Strong Playoffs
Glasnow, 32, is having a great postseason. He owns a 0.68 ERA with 18 strikeouts in 13 innings of work. According to Nick Ashbourne of Sportsnet, one pitch stands above the rest in his arsenal.
“It’s never been easy to do damage against Glasnow thanks to his imposing fastball, and multiple wipeout breaking balls at different velocities,” writes Ashbourne . “He’s using his sinker more than he has in years after putting it on the shelf between 2018 and 2023, making him a little more unpredictable.”
“And his four-seamer velo is up a full tick from September, generating a ludicrous amount of whiffs.”
According to Savant, Glasnow uses his four-seam fastball 35 percent of the time. He then relies on his other three pitches (curveball, sinker, and slider) almost equally.
Glasnow’s Most Glaring Weakness
Looking at Savant, it’s clear to see what Glasnow’s weakness is: a low Chase percentage . Batters tend to exhibit more patience when he’s on the mound, which has led to him coughing up more walks to the opposition.
Among the Dodgers’ four starting pitchers in rotation for the World Series, he and Blake Snell have walked the most batters this postseason (8). Additionally, he has the fewest number of strikeouts (18) and the highest WHIP (1.13).
With that in mind, the Blue Jays are in luck. Toronto has the third-most walks of all the teams that made the postseason in 2025. If they can continue their streak of being patient against pitchers and not fall for Glasnow’s curveball, they will be all set to run his pitch count up and have the Dodgers leaning on their bullpen quicker than they would like.
What Max Scherzer Brings to the Table

The Blue Jays are turning to Scherzer, 41 , who will make just his second start of the postseason. Toronto is switching up its pitching order, as Shane Bieber threw in Game 3 during their last series.
In just over five innings of work , Scherzer threw five strikeouts, four walks, and posted a 1.24 WHIP in the victory.
Unlike Glasnow, Scherzer relies on five pitches to earn his outs. He uses his four-seam fastball almost every other pitch (48 %). Scherzer relies on a mix of a slider , change-up, curveball, and cutter, according to Savant.
Scherzer Making History For Game 3
The Blue Jays starter is set to make MLB history on Monday night. He will be the first pitcher to pitch for four different teams in the World Series in his career. He previously appeared in the World Series with the Detroit Tigers , Texas Rangers , and Washington Nationals .
Game 3 is scheduled for 8:00 PM EST on October 27, 2025.
