The Toronto Blue Jays remain in the market for Bo Bichette, but the team is also looking at other options.
Toronto has been linked to Kyle Tucker and Alex Bregman, but the team has kept ties with Bichette. MLB insider Robert Murray, meanwhile, believes bringing back Bichette is the priority for the team.
“Being in Toronto is viewed as a really good thing,” Murray said on Foul Territory. “You have a winning ball club, it’s a great city for baseball, and they are considering all sorts of different options.
“A Bichette reunion is very much on the table for them; it’s something that they would like. He’s a homegrown player that they know inside and out. To me, I think that fit makes a whole lot of sense.”
If Murray is correct, it’s a good sign for Bichette’s future in Toronto, as it appears the Blue Jays want to bring him back. Bichette has spent his entire career with the Blue Jays, as he wanted Toronto to draft him back in 2016.
Bichette has become a key part of the Blue Jays’ success and is a two-time All-Star. Last season, he hit .311 with 18 home runs and 94 RBIs last season.
Blue Jays Keeping Tabs on Free Agent Bats
Toronto is going all-in this offseason, and the Blue Jays are looking to add a bat.
The Blue Jays have focused on pitching as Toronto signed starting pitchers Dylan Cease and Cody Ponce. Toronto then signed high-leverage reliever Tyler Rogers to a three-year deal.
Following the three key pitchers’ signing, the Blue Jays’ focus is now on a bat, and Toronto has been linked to Bichette, Kyle Tucker, and Alex Bregman.
“I don’t think the Blue Jays are done,” Passan said to Michael Kay. “I think they’re gonna get a big bat. Not sure if that’s Kyle Tucker or Alex Bregman or Bo Bichette or maybe multiple of them. The Blue Jays right now are in a position where they are willing to spend, they feel like they have a window here, and they are going to take advantage of Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s prime years.”
Toronto did meet with Tucker, so perhaps that does help them sign the star outfielder. But Murray believes the logical fit for Toronto is Bichette.
Bichette Open to a Position Change
Since entering the MLB, Bichette has been the Blue Jays’ everyday shortstop, but that may change.
Bichette has struggled defensively and MLB.com insider Mark Feinsand reported that the star hitter is open to moving to second base.
“According to sources, the two-time All-Star has let potential suitors know that he is ready, willing and able to move to second base, the position he played for the first time in his big-league career during this year’s World Series,” Feinsand wrote .
Bichette posted a -13 Outs Above Average last season, tying him with J.P. Crawford for last place among all shortstops.
“It seems like the message has gotten through to him that teams don’t view him as a shortstop in the long-term – or maybe even in 2026,” one source said to Feinsand. “His willingness to change positions can only help him in the market.”
Regardless of position, teams are likely to sign Bichette for his bat as he’s led the AL in hits twice.
