Scores, news, and notes from the Detroit Tigers’ farm system for Sunday, July 20, 2025.
Toledo Mud Hens 3, Memphis Redbirds 0 (Gm1)(F/7)(box )
Memphis Redbirds 4, Toledo Mud Hens 3 (Gm2)(F/7)(box )
An Andrew Navigato home run was the difference as the Mud Hens got good pitching to win the first of two on Sunday.
Nick Margevicius got the start in this one, and the lefty was pretty solid. He only struck out two, but he blanked the Redbirds for five innings, scattering four hits and a walk.
The Hens offense wasn’t exactly popping off in this one either. A pair of walks and a Hao-Yu Lee single loaded the bases in the bottom of the third, but Brewer Hicklen popped out and Ryan Kreidler struck out to squander the chance.
In the fourth, Trei Cruz drew a leadoff walk and stole second base, but a pair of outs followed. This time they didn’t squander the runner as Navigato launched a two-run shot to left for a 2-0 lead.

The Redbirds walked in a run in the fifth, while Alex Lange returned with a scoreless inning of relief and right-hander Geoff Hartlieb closed it out with a pair of strikeouts to earn the save.
Navigato: 1-2, R, 2 RBI, HR, BB, SB
Lee: 1-3, BB, 2 K, SB
Malloy: 1-3, R, BB
Margevicius (W, 5-3): 5.0 IP, 0 R, 4 H, BB, 2 K
Game 2 started off well but a pretty well pitched bullpen game from the Hens went to waste as the offense couldn’t mount a late comeback.
Justyn-Henry Malloy opened the scoring with a solo shot with two outs in the bottom of the first. Jace Jung followed with a double, and Brewer Hicklen and Ryan Kreidler drew walks to load the bases. Trei Cruz watched a 1-2 curveball drop in the middle of the strike zone for strike three to strand everyone.

In the top of the second, Bailey Horn allowed a pair of singles, and then a throwing error on Jace Jung cost them a run that tied the game 1-1. Gage Workman got the lead right back with a solo shot in the bottom half, but Drew Sommers took over from Horn and allowed the Redbirds to tie things up 2-2 in the third.

The Hens loaded the bases again in the fourth, but Workman struck out and Hao-Yu Lee grounded into an inning ending double play.
Matt Manning handled the fourth, but walked the leadoff hitter in the fifth and then allowed a two-run shot to Nathan Church on a 2-0 sweeper down and in on the corner to the lefty.
Akil Baddoo hammered a deep solo shot to center field in the bottom of the fifth that made it 4-3 Red Birds, but that was all the Hens could muster. Woo-Suk Go and new acquisition Tanner Rainey finished things up out of the pen.
Workman: 1-2, R, RBI, HR, BB, K
Jung: 2-4, 2B, K
Manning (L, 2-2): 1.1 IP, 2 ER, 3 H, 2 BB, K
Coming Up Next: The Hens will look to shake off the series loss as they head to Indianapolis for six with the Indians.
Erie SeaWolves 4, Chesapeake Baysox 0 (box )
This was a pretty well pitched game for the most part, and it was the SeaWolves big bats that carried the day.
The pitching staff did its part, though multiple relievers had to pitch through traffic created by walks. Garrett Burhenn got the start and fired five scoreless innings with just two hits and a walk allowed. Tyler Mattison struggled to locate in his inning of work, walking two, but kept Chesapeake off the board anyway. Jordan Marks handled two innings despite walking three, and Trevin Michael closed it out without issue.

Kevin McGonigle opened the scoring in the third by doubling the opposite way to score Jim Jarvis, who had walked earlier in the inning. Max Anderson drew a walk but Josue Briceño bounced a checked swing roller to third for the final out in the inning. Justice Bigbie launched his eighth homer, a solo shot, in the fourth to make it 2-0.

Jake Holton reached in the sixth but was thrown out at home on a Jarvis double. The SeaWolves hit a couple of balls hard against the Baysox pen, but that was it for the scoring.

Jarvis: 1-3, 2 R, 2B, BB
McGonigle: 1-3, RBI, 2B, BB, K

West Michigan Whitecaps 6, Lansing Lugnuts 0 (box )
The Whitecaps again got good pitching and took advantage of plenty of wildness from Lugnuts pitching to beat them again on Sunday.
Andrew Sears got the start, and while the strikeouts still aren’t coming, the lefty’s fast-working approach racked up plenty of weak contact and no runs allowed over five innings of work.

In the third, Andrew Jenkins tripled with one out and scored on an Austin Murr double. Murr stole third, and with two outs, Patrick Lee walked and promptly stole second base. Hadeen singled them both in for a 5-0 lead.
The offense had some chances throughout the rest of the game, and Patrick Lee went on to steal four bases as the ‘Caps had little trouble running on the Lugnuts. Finally in the top of the ninth, Graham and Jack Penney led off with singles and Izaac Pacheco walked to load the bases with no outs. Jenkins flew out shallowly to right and Murr struck out, but a Luke Gold single scored Graham but Pacheco was cut down trying to take the extra base.
Colin Fields tossed two scoreless innings of relief, while Blair Calvo and Marco Jimenez took care of the eighth and ninth.
Graham: 2-5, R, 2 RBI, K
Jenkins: 1-4, R, 3B, BB

Lakeland Flying Tigers 6, Clearwater Threshers 0 (box )
Gabriel Reyes and Logan Berrier combined for six scoreless innings, and the offense churned out plenty of hits to beat the Threshers again on Sunday.
Reyes had his slider and changeup working in this one as the lefty tossed three innings of one-hit, scoreless ball with three strikeouts. The right-handed Berrier was hit up a little more but scattered four hits and a walk over his three innings of work.
Zach MacDonald singled in a run in the third, while Jackson Strong came up with the bases loaded in the inning and dumped a two-run single into left center field for a 3-0 lead.
