Scores, news, and notes from the Detroit Tigers’ farm system for Tuesday, May 27, 2025.
Toledo Mud Hens 10, Louisville Bats 5 (box )
The Mud Hens hit all night long and plated 10 to open a week-long series against the Bats.
Parker Meadows led the offense with three hits and as many runs batted in. He jumpstarted the scoring in the bottom of the second with a two-run triple, and it’s hard to see him being in Toledo much longer. He looks ready to roam center field in Detroit again and could be back by next week.

Hao-Yu Lee also had multiple hits, a two-run double in the fourth inning being the more important of the two. Lee also drove in a run in the sixth with a single and initiated a double steal to score Meadows from third.

Meanwhile, Nick Margevicius was on the mound, putting up his second quality start in as many weeks. His fastball was a bit firmer than usual, coming in 2 mph faster than his season average, and Margevicius is excellent at drawing soft contact with his cutter. He went five full innings, giving up just one run on three hits and a walk while striking out four.
Matt Manning took over in the sixth and gave up a one-out triple that eventually scored, but Toledo’s offense built up a big enough cushion to enjoy a 6-2 lead by the end of the inning. In the seventh, the Mud Hens put the game away with a three-spot, highlighted by a two-run double from Ryan Kreidler. Meadows added one more for good measure, and Akil Baddoo doubled in the eighth to make it an even 10 runs.
Brendan White saw three runs cross in the ninth while trying to close out the game. A pair of errors, including one committed by White himself, extended the inning, but none of the runs were earned.
Baddoo: 1-3, 2B (4) 1 R, 1 RBI, 2 BB, 1 K
Lee: 2-4, 2B (8), 3 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K
Meadows: 3-5, 3B (1), 2 R, 3 RBI, 0 BB, 0 K
Margevicius (W, 2-1): 5.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 4 K; 86 pitches (60 strikes)
Manning (H, 2): 1.0 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K; 32 pitches (21 strikes)
Coming Up Next: Toledo looks to take a commanding 2-0 series lead Wednesday at 11:05 a.m. ET with Wilkel Hernandez starting.
Reading Fightin Phils 1, Erie SeaWolves 0 (box )
Erie only managed two hits against Reading in a 1-0 loss Tuesday night.
Max Anderson hit his 13th double of the season to open the fourth and extend his hitting streak to 17 games (fifth longest in franchise history). He was thrown out trying to move up to third on a ground ball, but there weren’t many scoring threats throughout the game. Jim Jarvis hit a leadoff single in the ninth, and Thayron Liranzo was the only other SeaWolf to reach base with a two-out walk in the first.
Reading scored the only run of the afternoon in the second inning. Keaton Anthony doubled off Erie starter Garrett Burhenn to open the frame and scored two batters later on a Leandro Pineda double.
Burhenn was fine for the rest of his outing, although he struggled with command. Four walks didn’t end up doing any harm, but it’s still uncharacteristic of Burhenn to allow more than two free bases in a game. He made it through the fifth but still took his first loss of the season while striking out six.
Final line for Garrett Burhenn:
5 IP | 4 H | 1 ER | 4 BB | 6 BB | 71 pitches, 41 strikes.

Austin Bergner, who swapped spots with Drew Sommers in Toledo, made his first appearance for Erie, throwing three innings of shutout relief in the loss. Reading hit safely just twice against Bergner, and he struck out two with no walks. Not a bad debut for a guy getting sent down a level.
The good news is that Erie didn’t waste a ton of arms in this loss. The bad news is that it’s still a loss, and Reading didn’t utilize any of the pitchers ranked within Philadelphia’s top 30 prospects.
Anderson: 1-4, 2B (13), 0 BB, 0 K
Bigbie: 0-3, 0 BB, 1 K
Cruz: 0-4, 0 BB, 3 K
Liranzo: 0-3, 1 BB, 1 K
Burhenn (L, 5-1): 5.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 6 K; 74 pitches (41 strikes)
Bergner: 3.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K; 35 pitches (24 strikes)
Coming Up Next: Erie looks to even up the series on Wednesday at 6:45 p.m. ET with Joseph Montalvo on the mound.
West Michigan Whitecaps 12, Dayton Dragons 7 (box )
The West Michigan Whitecaps came out on top of a shootout against the Dayton Dragons Tuesday night, 12-7.
Max Clark went 0-for-4, but Josue Briceno and Kevin McGonigle both reached safely twice with an extra base hit apiece. Clark walked to open the game, Magoo doubled to right and Briceno opened the scoring for West Michigan with a three-run homer in the first inning.
Unfortunately, Briceno left the game in the fifth inning after being hit by a follow-through while catching. He’ll get his elbow looked at and be evaluated from there, but don’t be surprised to see him out of the lineup tomorrow.

John Peck doubled in McGonigle for an insurance run in the third, but Dayton responded with a three-run shot of its own in the bottom of the inning. The Dragons also went deep in the first, a two-run home run, making it 5-4. Another two-run homer in the fourth for Dayton put the game in danger of getting out of hand, but West Michigan got back out in front with a six-run fifth.
Dayton replaced starter Nestor Loran in the fourth inning, and the move immediately backfired. Graham Osman didn’t record an out in relief, walking three of the five batters he faced and giving up a pair of hits to the other two. Another pitching change and a Seth Stephenson double later, and the Whitecaps successfully turned a one-run deficit into a two-run lead.
The @wmwhitecaps fifth inning started like this:
Josue Briceño: Walk
John Peck: Walk
Austin Murr: Single
Izaac Pacheco: Bases-Loaded Walk
Andrew Jenkins: 2R DoubleLater, Seth Stephenson’s 2-Run Double highlights a six-run 5th.

Clark closed out the fifth inning scoring with an RBI ground out, Andrew Jenkins added run No. 11 with an RBI single and Luke Gold made it a dozen runs with a ground out. Jenkins went 4-for-4 on the day with a double and three runs driven in.
Rayner Castillo got the start for the Whitecaps. It wasn’t his best outing with the two homers doing significant damage, but the five walks are more concerning. Giving up homers on a mistake pitch here and there is one thing. Losing command entirely is what happened here.
Marco Jimenez also gave up a homer in relief, but he recovered for two full innings of work. Trevin Michael and Micah Ashman both threw two innings of relief, delivering Jimenez the win. Michael was particularly impressive with no hits and just one walk while striking out a pair.
Clark: 0-4, 1 R, 1 RBI, 2 BB, 2 K
McGonigle: 2-5, 2B (6), 2 R, 1 BB, 0 K
Briceno: 1-2, HR (8), 2 R, 3 RBI, 1 BB, 0 K
Jenkins: 4-4, 2B (8), 1 R, 3 RBI, 1 BB, 0 K
Castillo: 3.0 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 5 BB, 3 K; 65 pitches (35 strikes)
Coming Up Next: Hayden Minton is on the bump for West Michigan on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. ET
Postponed: Lakeland Flying Tigers vs. Tampa Tarpons (rain)
Rain in Florida spoiled the series opener between Lakeland and Tampa, but the game will get made up on Wednesday as part of a doubleheader.
Coming Up Next: The official schedule lists 4:30 p.m. ET and 4:35 p.m. for Wednesday’s games; however, the expectation is to play a straight doubleheader starting at 4:30 p.m. Neither team has a starter listed for either game at this point.
