The 29-year-old defenceman tallied ten goals and 29 assists over 69 games, contributing significantly to the Jets’ first Presidents’ Trophy win in franchise history. Contract Details

On Thursday, the Winnipeg Jets announced that Neal Pionk signed an extension for six years, valued at $42 million. This contract, averaging $7 million per season, positions Pionk among the league’s well-compensated defencemen. For comparison, players like Brady Skjei and Brandon Montour have similar contracts, reflecting Pionk’s value to the team. Notably, the NHL salary cap is set to rise from $88 million to $95.5 million for the 2025–26 season, providing teams with more flexibility in managing player salaries.

The Flight Plan in Winnipeg

Neal Pionk has been a steady presence on the Jets blueline since arriving from the Rangers in 2019. Over time, he has become a veteran leader and key transitional defenceman who helps push the puck up ice quickly. With this new deal, the Jets have signaled that they view Pionk as a foundational piece moving forward.

That said, expectations will only grow. While his regular-season performance has been solid, Pionk’s play in the postseason will come under greater scrutiny. Fans and analysts alike will now watch closely to see whether his on-ice impact justifies the financial investment, especially in high-stakes games. Looking ahead, Winnipeg will need Pionk to be more than steady. They’ll need him to be a difference-maker when it counts.
