Surprisingly, the 36-year-old made the decision public earlier today after 15 seasons in the league. It’s the end of an era for one of the NHL’s most dependable and clutch playoff performers.

A Stanley Cup Champion With a Flair for the Big Moment
Martinez was originally drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in 2007. Three years later, he made his NHL debut in 2010 and spent the majority of his career in Los Angeles, winning two Stanley Cups with the club. He etched his name in hockey history by scoring two of the most iconic goals in Kings history. The first, the Game 7 overtime winner against Chicago in 2014. Then the Stanley Cup, clinching goal in double overtime of Game 5 against the Rangers.
