Levshunov has five goals and 17 assists in 50 games in the American Hockey League. The defenceman missed the beginning of the season as a result of a foot injury.
This will actually be the second time this season Levshunov has been called up to the Blackhawks. During the AHL All-Star break in February, the Hawks called up Levshunov, who skated in some practices with the team, but did not make his NHL debut. However, that will not be the case this time. Levshunov will make his NHL debut sometime this week.
The Blackhawks are on a road trip that continues Monday against the Colorado Avalanche . The team has a morning skate Monday morning, where we may find out the plans for the young defenceman.
Levshunov to Play in the NHL Before AHL Playoffs Begin
The Rockford IceHogs hold a 10-point cushion for the final Calder Cup Playoff berth. With this comfortable lead, it makes sense for the organization to let Levshunov get some experience in the NHL. Futhermore, the youth movement is officially beginning in Chicago following Friday’s trade deadline . As a result, it is an appropriate time to call up a top prospect.
This NHL stint is not likely to be long, as Rockford will want him back in time for the playoff run. The playoff experience, even if just at the AHL, will be beneficial for Levshunov as he continues to grow as a player.
“Arty Party” Joins Bedard
It has not been a fun time to be a Blackhawks fan. However, one thing that has kept fans hopeful is the youth. After Connor Bedard ‘s successful rookie season last year as the first-overall pick followed by more success this year, the arrival of Levshunov only further reminds Blackhawk fans that better days are ahead in the “Windy City.”
