NHL Predictions: Western Conference, First Round, Game 2

Edmonton Oilers vs Los Angeles Kings

Series: Oilers 0 – 1 Kings

Time: 10:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT)

TV: TBS, MAX, CBC, SN, TVAS, FDSNW

What. A. Game.

Game 1 between the Edmonton Oilers and Los Angeles Kings was pure chaos in the best possible way. The Kings stormed out to a 4–0 lead, only for the Oilers to claw all the way back, on the back of a vintage Connor McDavid 3rd period performance, and tie it 5–5 late in the third period. Just when it seemed like Edmonton had all the momentum, Phillip Danault broke hearts in Alberta with a game-winning dagger in the final seconds. If that was just the opener, we’re in for a wild ride in this series.

The Edmonton Oilers and Los Angeles Kings are set to face off in Game 2 of their first-round playoff series on Wednesday, April 22nd , at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California. This NHL Prediction will focus on how the Kings are looking to maintain their crucial home-ice advantage, while the Oilers are looking for the split before heading back to Alberta.

Oilers Seek to Even the Series

The Edmonton Oilers demonstrated their offensive prowess in Game 1 , erasing a 4–0 deficit to tie the game late in the third period. It was almost their own version of the Miracle on Manchester or the Comeback on Katella . Connor McDavid was Connor McDavid and led the charge with a goal and three assists, while Leon Draisaitl and Corey Perry each recorded a goal and an assist. Mattias Janmark and Zach Hyman also found the back of the net, showcasing the team’s scoring depth.

Despite the loss, the Oilers’ comeback effort should provide a small confidence boost heading into Game 2; they are rarely out of a game. Their resilience and offensive capabilities make them a formidable opponent, and they aim to build on this momentum to even the series.

Kings Aim to Build on Game 1 Victory

The Los Angeles Kings secured a thrilling 6–5 win in Game 1, taking a 1–0 series lead. Despite relinquishing a four-goal advantage, Phillip Danault’s late goal clinched the victory, showcasing the team’s resilience. Andrei Kuzmenko and Adrian Kempe each tallied a goal and two assists, while Quinton Byfield and Kevin Fiala contributed to the offensive surge. Goaltender Darcy Kuemper made 20 saves, anchoring the Kings’ defence.

The Kings’ ability to withstand the Oilers’ comeback underscores their depth and composure. However, they acknowledge the need for a full 60-minute effort to contain Edmonton’s potent offence. There could be hints of doubt creeping in after an almost monumental collapse in the third. Drew Doughty sure seemed relieved.

“That’s a big win. We’d like to get both here. We’ve gotta start focusing on the next game already.”

NHL Predictions: Game 2

Game 1 highlighted the high-octane offence of the Oilers and the Kings’ ability to capitalize on opportunities. As both teams adjust their strategies, expect a tightly contested matchup. The Oilers’ determination to bounce back and the Kings’ desire to maintain their lead set the stage for an intense battle. The Oilers are more prepared in this one and go home with a split.

Prediction: Oilers win 4-3.

Prop Bets of the Night

We round out NHL Predictions with some prop bets of the night. Let’s put our money where our mouth is; take a look at the Oilers moneyline (+114). Stick with those plus odds for Draisaitl anytime goal, especially since they are better than last game (+155). A lot of attention will be on McDavid, which means Draisaitl will likely find himself in a quiet area. (Postseason record: 3-0)
