NHL Predictions: October 28 St. Louis Blues Vs Detroit Red Wings

October 28, 2025 by Last Word On Hockey

Welcome back to NHL Predictions here on Last Word on Hockey! Every day, we provide in-depth analysis, insights, and predictions for every NHL game. For the second time in four days, the St. Louis Blues and Detroit Red Wings meet in a cross-conference match.

NHL Predictions

St. Louis Blues vs Detroit Red Wings

Time: 8:15 P.M. EST

TV: FanDuel Sports Network Midwest, FanDuel Sports Network Detroit

Series Series: Red Wings Lead, 1-0

The former divisional rivals for the final this season. On Saturday , the Blues jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second period. However, the Red Wings rallied to score six unanswered goals and pick up the win.

“You couldn’t have been more disappointed early and more full of joy at the end,” Red Wings’ coach Todd McLellan said . “That’s an incredible comeback when we had absolutely nothing going on. It was a borderline disaster.”

For the Red Wings, it was their fifth-straight home win. As for the Blues, insult was added to injury as Robert Thomas and Jake Neighbours were injured during the game.

Blues Cannot Get the Big Save

Goaltending has been a problem so far this year for the Blues. The team’s 6-3 loss on Monday to the Pittsburgh Penguins marked the third-straight game in which the Blues have allowed six or more goals. Furthermore, it was the Blues’ fifth time allowing five or more goals.

Joel Hofer has been the biggest culprit. After being pulled in back-to-back starts, Hofer gave up two goals in the opening minute on Monday. He settled down somewhat to keep the Blues in the game, but still gave up five goals. The rest of the team was fighting to climb back into the game. If Hofer had been able to give the team a few extra saves in a big moment, the team may have escaped Pittsburgh with an ugly but meaningful win.

Jordan Binnington will return between the pipes on Tuesday. The Blues will hope their number-one goalie can lead the team. However, he did give up five goals in the Detroit game on Saturday.

Wings Start Road Trip

The Wings’ five-game winning streak at home has been impressive. However, they will not get an opportunity to extend the streak until November 7th. Tuesday night is the first of a five-game road trip. All games will come against Western Conference opponents. Furthermore, the Blues will be their only opponent not to play on the West Coast. If you are a Red Wings fan and intend to watch these games, put a pot of coffee on.

The Red Wings have had a strong start to the season, posting a 6-3-0 record heading into Tuesday’s game. This road trip will be an important one. This can be a statement trip for the Red Wings. Four of their five opponents currently have winning records. Furthermore, three of those four were playoff teams last year. If the Wings want to show they are a legitimate playoff contender, a strong showing on this road trip can help them do so.

Prediction

The Blues are playing their second game in as many nights. Furthermore, we do not know if Thomas and/or Neighbours will be available. The Red Wings, meanwhile, have not played since their comeback on Saturday and will be rested.

We are going to pick the Red Wings to win this one. However, it will be a tight game. We think a shootout will be required, and it is in this shootout that the Red Wings start their road trip with a victory.

Red Wings win, 3-2, in a shootout.

Prop Bets

The over/under for the game is set at 5.5 goals. We are taking just under that with five goals.

For prop bets, Jordan Kyrou comes into Tuesday on a seven-game point streak. We are picking him to record at least one point. As for the Red Wings, Simon Edvinsson scored twice on Saturday. We are picking him to score again against the Blues.
