Matt Rempe Suspended For Friday Night Incident
Rempe got suspended after elbowing Stars defenceman Miro Heiskanen in the head in Friday’s game. the 22-year-old hit Heiskanen at 7:10 of the third period after the Finn played the puck with back to Rempe. The Rangers forward then raised his arm and drove his opponent’s head into the glass.
Referees ejected Rempe after giving him a game misconduct. The Calgary native is a repeat offender after being suspended four games last season. Rempe was handed the ban after elbowing New Jersey Devils defenceman Jonas Siegenthaler in March.
Rempe is without a point in give games this season as he’s played in AHL Hartford or been a healthy scratch. He has one goal and one assist in 22 career games spread across two seasons with the Blueshirts.
The 6-foot, 9-inch and 255 pound forward spent his junior career with the Seattle Thunderbirds of the WHL. Rempe may be a fourth-liner, but developed a cult following with the team.
What It Means
Rempe does play with a lot of effort. However, he’s struggled to stay in the lineup. He gives the Rangers an edge that may be lacking. However, things like this will keep him out of the lineup.
New York has been struggling in recent games. However, it did rally to beat Dallas by a 3-1 score on Friday night.
The Rangers have been underperforming, but do have the tools to turn in around. However, Rempe may be part of the plan if he keeps taking penalties when he gets a chance to crack the lineup.
