The Minnesota Vikings are facing a key choice with wide receiver Jordan Addison, deciding whether to pick up the fifth-year option on the contract and then map out a potential long-term extension.
Moreover, on Jan. 20, The Athletic reported that the charge against Addison stemming from a Jan. 12 incident in Florida has been dropped, per Hillsborough County court records. Addison will not have to appear in any further proceedings related to the arrest.
As a result, the Vikings could explore trading Addison, though that may not happen. On the Jan. 20 edition of “The Alec Lewis Show,” The Athletic’s Alec Lewis shared his take regarding the Minnesota wideout’s future.
“I’ve seen it [on Jan. 20] where this trespassing charge was dismissed, ‘Okay, that makes it easier to trade him.’ What I would say on that subject is that the Vikings, in this regime, I don’t expect them to ever trade people at their lowest value,” Lewis said. “It’s just not sensible with how this regime currently thinks about it and that’s what I’d say on that subject.
“Jordan Addison was drafted to be a clear fixture as part of the Vikings offensive identity, which has been to throw the ball downfield vertically and be able to use the passcatching talent to a premium advantage… but there is no overstating the importance of what these next handful of months are going to be for Jordan Addison’s future here and, obviously, his value throughout the NFL.”
Vikings GM Talks Jordan Addison’s Future
On Jan. 13, Vikings general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah was asked about Addison’s future, considering the player’s contract situation and latest arrest news.
“I don’t want to speak too deeply about it,” Adofo-Mensah said during his end-of-season press conference on Jan. 13 . “But obviously, any decision you make with Nailor or anybody else is about the short-term and the long-term of that room. Jordan is unique because 99 percent of the days that Jordan Addison is a Viking, he is a joy to be around. He is incredibly intelligent, confident, [and] responsible.
“Then it’s like all of us; it’s what are you like on those 1 percent of those days? Is it the type of thing that draws attention or not? Obviously, that’s something we have to consider when you’re talking about long-term ramifications of a contract extension and different things like that, or letting somebody like Jalen Nailor leave.
“We’ll have those conversations, obviously, just a few days after the season. And obviously, this event just happened. We have not. But always supportive of Jordan Addison. We’ll continue to back, find, and see what actually happened. And then we’ll have those conversations in the future.”
Jordan Addison Had Challenging 2025 for Vikings
Addison is looking to bounce back after a tough 2025 NFL season, finishing with just 42 catches for 610 yards, along with six drops.
His season got off to a rocky start with a three-game suspension for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. Addison also missed the first quarter of the Week 5 London game against the Cleveland Browns , a move head coach Kevin O’Connell called a “coach’s decision.”
