Victor Wembanayama has been among the upper echelon of rim protectors since his seismic NBA debut season in 2023, and the 21-year-old phenom strengthened his status as a generational shot-blocker with another rare milestone this week.
Wembanyama joined an exclusive club on Friday night, recording his 100th consecutive regular-season game with at least one block in the San Antonio Spurs’ 126-98 win against the Atlanta Hawks.
The streak dates to his rookie season. His last regular-season game without a block was on Jan. 10, 2024, against the Detroit Pistons.
Only two players have accomplished this feat before. Dikembe Mutombo had a streak of 116 games with at least one block, while Patrick Ewing had 145 consecutive games.
Wembanyama has the second-most blocks (51) so far this season, despite missing 12 games with a calf strain. He enters Sunday as one of two players with 50+ blocks this season.
Victor Wembanyama is on a Historic Defensive Pace

Possessing otherworldly size, Wembanyama uses his lengthy frame well to deter shots and neutralize opponents.
He doesn’t shy away from contact at the rim and often gets the better of the mid-air meetings with would-be scorers.
Should he maintain his absurd pace of 3.4 blocks per game, the 21-year-old All-Star would join former Spurs center David Robinson as the only players in history to average 3+ blocks per game in their first three seasons.
Wembanyama has frequently drawn praise for his defensive efforts and two-way ability since turning pro. This includes a bold assertion regarding his future from the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, LeBron James.
“He doesn’t have a ceiling,” LeBron James said of Wembanyama . “He can do whatever he wants to do in his career. It seems like he enjoys the game. It seems like he puts the work in, just from the outside looking in. … I said a long time ago how special he was, and it’s really that simple.”
Wembanyama was a lock to win the 2025 NBA Defensive Player of the Year award before a blood clot in his right shoulder ended his season in February, and the Spurs star failed to meet the 65-game minimum for award eligibility.
With a cleaner bill of health this season, Wembanyama could be a finalist for the prestigious award.
Not only does he own the longest active block streak, but Wembanyama has been the anchor for a surging Spurs squad this season.
San Antonio, led by the talented former No. 1 draft pick Wembanyama, boasts the second-best record in the Western Conference at 20-7 and was runner-up for the third annual NBA Cup.
With Wembanyama locking down the paint and swatting shots at a historic clip, the Spurs figure to be a threat in the regular season and beyond.
