After nearly three decades on NBA sidelines, former Coach of the Year Dwane Casey says he’s coached his last game.
Speaking to the media Sunday, the soon-to-be 66-year-old admitted: “This is my last game. I’m moving to the front office.”

Casey got his start as an assistant on the Seattle Supersonics staff where he went to an NBA Finals in 1995-96. He’d go on to get his first head coaching opportunity in Minnesota in 2005 for two years before spending seven seasons with the Raptors and another five with Detroit.
All told, Casey holds a 494-569 record with five Eastern Conference Coach of the Month honors and the aforementioned Coach of the Year Award in 2017.
Casey’s voice, consistency and strength of character allowed him to have very good success during his tenure in Toronto where he won 57% of his games and made the playoffs five straight times.
He’ll look to bring that same sort of steadiness to Detroit’s front office moving forward.
