It didn’t take long for the Detroit Pistons to bring a familiar face back to the Central Division.
Per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski , the team is hiring former Cavaliers head coach J.B. Bickerstaff to man the sideline in Motor City after consecutive trips to the playoffs with Cleveland.
The move comes after the Pistons fired coach Monty Williams just one year into a massive six-year, $78.5 million contract.
Bickerstaff spent the last five seasons in The Land, but was fired by Cavs brass despite leading the franchise to its first Eastern Conference semifinals berth since the LeBron James era.
Detroit was a league-worst 14-68 in 2023 where they tied the NBA record for the longest losing streak in history at 28 games.
The Pistons definitely have some young pieces to work with but its going to take some development before they’re able to get the most out of those potential building blocks.
It’s been a tough stretch of basketball for fans at Little Caesars Arena, who have only seen their beloved Pistons make the postseason twice since the end of the Bush Administration.
Bickerstaff holds a 255-290 career win-loss record across three stints with the Rockets, Grizzlies and Cavaliers.
