Broadcasters on NBC Sports reported before Sunday Night Football in Week 8 that quarterback Aaron Rodgers and Jordan Love would exchange jerseys after the Pittsburgh Steelers–Green Bay Packers matchup. But after the game, Rodgers failed to answer whether or not that happened.
Rodgers also denied providing any other further details about his potential jersey exchange with Love.
“No, not comfortable sharing it,” said Rodgers to reporters following the contest.
Presumably, Rodgers and Love did exchange jerseys. Bleacher Report Gridiron posted video with audio of the quarterbacks shaking hands on the field after the game. In the clip, Rodgers agreed to “send it over” to Love away from the cameras.
It was a night to remember for Love. The 26-year-old beat his former mentor while tying a Packers record with 20 consecutive passes.
Love finished 29 of 37 with 360 passing yards and three touchdowns. Love led the Packers to 28 second-half points.
Rodgers didn’t play poorly but didn’t shine or have the same support from his teammates. Rodgers went 24 for 36 with 219 passing yards and two touchdowns.
Did Aaron Rodgers Snub Jordan Love in Week 8 Handshake?
Some fans asked on social media if Rodgers turned down Love’s request for a jersey swap after the Week 8 matchup. The Steelers quarterback could have put that question to rest in his postgame press conference, but he chose not to address the subject.
It’s pretty clear in Bleacher Report’s video, though, that Rodgers and Love either exchanged jerseys later Sunday night or will eventually.
Rodgers is a very private person. He made that clear during the several months it took for him to sign in free agency with the Steelers.
So, it’s not super shocking that he wanted to share a private moment with Love rather than a jersey exchange moment on the field that would have gone viral after the game.
In his postgame press conference, Love had more to say about the jersey swap than Rodgers.
“Just said good game, keep going for the rest of the season,” Love said of his handshake with Rodgers. “I want him to stay healthy, and I’ve got a lot of love for him. Very fun to go against him. I told him I needed that jersey, and we’re gonna exchange them at a later time.”
Rodgers Praises Love After Packers Win
Rodgers made it clear throughout last week that he had no animosity towards Love and the Packers. The Steelers quarterback didn’t address that subject again Sunday night, but he sang his counterpart’s praises.
“I thought J-Love played great. He was super efficient,” Rodgers told reporters. “He didn’t get sacked and moved around really well, made some plays outside the pocket. Thought he played outstanding.”
Rodgers complimented Love again with another answer.
“He played great. Played fantastic. He’s had a really nice season,” Rodgers added. “He’s been really efficient with the football. He’s opportunistic, though. I felt like he was very patient tonight. They took the run solutions. He took the check downs, moved in the pocket well.
“Thought he played really well.”
The Packers drafted Love in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft . Rodgers remained Green Bay’s starter for three more years and won two MVP awards while Love learned behind the future Hall of Famer.
Before the 2023 season, the Packers traded Rodgers and moved ahead with Love as their starter.
Love improved to 23-16-1 as an NFL starter during his career. Meanwhile, on Sunday, Rodgers missed an opportunity to become the fifth quarterback to defeat all 32 NFL teams.
