The Detroit Pistons will get a new head coach this offseason.
Per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski , Dwayne Casey will transition to a front-office role. The Pistons ended his fifth season with an NBA-worst 17-65 record following Sunday’s 103-81 loss to the Chicago Bulls.
Fans looked ahead to Detroit’s future in what could also be a beneficial transition for Casey.
“Good move for everyone involved,” a fan claimed .
“Worst kept secret,” Jim Costa of 97.1 The Ticket wrote. “Pistons will have a new coach next season.”
“I actually love this for Dwane Casey,” a fan said . “Pistons have treated him well and let him really develop the young guys in Detroit. Glad he’s being promoted and they’re still utilizing him.”
“Big off-season for Detroit coming up,” Brice Lewis of FOX 56 declared. “Potentially could get Victor [Wembanyama]. If you nail the right coach and add some veteran talent with the young core already there, Pistons could be dangerous next season.”
“Thank you Coach Casey. You’ve established a great legacy as a coach in the NBA,” a fan wrote . “You’re a class act.”
Casey joined the Pistons after winning Coach of the Year in his seventh and final season with the Toronto Raptors. After going 41-41 in his first year, the Pistons have remained at the bottom of the standings during a lengthy rebuild.
They’ve totaled 90 wins over the last four seasons, resulting in three straight top-10 draft picks. Another top selection, potentially Wembanyama if they win their second lottery in three years, will join Cade Cunningham, Killian Hayes, and Jaden Ivey in Detroit next season.
