Pistons hire Trajan Langdon as new President of Basketball Operations

NBA: New Orleans Pelicans-Media Day

The long-awaited announcement of who will be taking over the Pistons front office has finally happened.

The process may have taken longer than some people wanted, but the Pistons have landed on their new President of Basketball Operations, former Pelicans GM Trajan Langdon. The news is reported by Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Langdon has spent the last 5 years as the General Manager of the New Orleans Pelicans working under their President, David Griffin. Before joining the Pelicans, Langdon was a highly-regarded executive in the front office of the Brooklyn Nets and also had a brief three year playing career.

The Pelicans have done a great job of building up their asset pool over the years, aided heavily by the trade of Anthony Davis, but their roster has failed to get over the hump in the highly-competitive Western Conference.

The front office of Langdon and Griffin have had some hits in the draft with their trove of draft picks like Trey Murphy III and Herb Jones, but they also have some bad missed like Kira Lewis Jr. The lack of a true point guard has really hurt the Pelicans over the last few years as they have a team of solid wings with Zion Williamson, but no table setter for them

Hopefully having a franchise Point Guard in Cade Cunningham will help Langdon build a roster of complimentary wings that can help get the Pistons out of the cellar.

It is unclear what the hiring of Langdon means for Troy Weaver and Monty Williams, but I would anticipate at least one of them being relieved of their duties.
