NFL Announces Decision on Player Who Injured Giants’ Cam Skattebo

November 1, 2025 by Heavy

The New York Giants have been experiencing a dramatic season and one that’s been filled with ups-and-downs. After starting the season with consecutive losses, the Giants asked quarterback Russell Wilson to step aside and promoted rookie Jaxson Dart to starting signal-caller, and he’s scored them two wins. Now, the Giants are heading into Week 9 with a 2-6 record and badly needing a win against the 5-3 San Francisco 49ers.

What’s difficult for Dart is that he just lost one of his go-to running backs in fellow rookie Cam Skattebo. On Sunday, October 26, Skattebo was badly injured during the Giant’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles. During the game, Skattebo was injured during a player with Eagles linebacker Zack Baun, and his severe right ankle injury was so bad that the player had to be carted off the field. The Philadelphia crowd gave Skattebo a standing ovation as he was taken away.

Heading into this weekend’s NFL penalties, one of the most watched aspects of the announcement was whether Baun would get fined for his actions that resulted in a season-ending injury for Skattebo. Now, the NFL has made its final decision.

NFL Decides Fate of Philadelphia Eagles Player Who Was Involved With Cam Skattebo Injury

Every week, the league penalizes players for conduct in the previous week’s games. The NFL states on their website that these actions are “to protect players from unnecessary risk and preserve competitive balance and game integrity.” The NFL announces those punishments every Saturday afternoon during the regular season.

Now, the NFL has released its report for Week 8 , and it doesn’t include Baun. So, Baun got away with this one clean and isn’t being punished by the NFL for his actions in the Giants game.

Baun’s move during the game was a “hip drop tackle,” but it wasn’t called on the field. The injury happened during a pass attempt in the second quarter of the contest. During the play, Skattebo’s right leg was pinned and twisted under him following the hit from Baun.

Skattebo sustained his severe ankle injury after that incident. Skattebo had recorded his seventh touchdown of the season during the game with an 18-yard pass from Dart.

“This is awful– Giants standout rookie RB Cam Skattebo just suffered an ankle injury, and it’s bad…” NFL reporter Arye Pulli said on X , sharing a video of the incident. Other followers noted the hip drop tackle, with with one saying , “How was this not a flag bro? I thought we banned hip dropped tackles.” Another added , “Is that not a hip drop tackle?”

New York Giants Player Gets Penalized

While Baun got away with no fine, the same isn’t true for defensive end Rakeem Nunez-Roches, who was fined $23,186 for “unnecessary roughness” and “use of the helmet.” Also, Philadelphia Eagles player Jeremiah Trotter Jr. was fined $5,790 for “unnecessary roughness” for a “blindside block.”

According to the NFL, those fines will go to the Professional Athletes Foundation to “support legends in need and the NFL Foundation to further support the health, safety and wellness of athletes across all levels, including youth football and the communities that support the game.”

The New York Giants won’t have their NFL bye week until Week 14, so they still have five weeks to go until they get a break. With both Skattebo and wide receiver Malik Nabers out for the season, Dart has his work cut out for him.
