After being let go by the Phoenix Suns, it doesn’t seem like Monty Williams will be out of a job for long.
According to Shams Charania and James L. Edwards III of The Athletic, the Detroit Pistons are “seriously pursuing ” Williams for their head coaching vacancy.
That pursuit includes a potential offer “in the range of $10 million per year,” which would put him among the highest-paid coaches in the league.
Sources: The Detroit Pistons are seriously pursuing 2022 NBA Coach of the Year Monty Williams to be their new head coach and are preparing a significant offer.

Williams, 51, was fired earlier this month after four seasons. The Suns went 45-37 this season, losing in the Western Conference semifinals for the second year in a row.
Under Williams, Phoenix reached the 2021 NBA Finals and earned the West’s No. 1 seed in the 2022 playoffs. Williams also made the postseason two times in five years as head coach of the New Orleans Pelicans (2010-15).
The Pistons are coming off a 17-65 campaign and have missed the playoffs four straight years. Overall, Detroit has been to the postseason just twice in the last 14 seasons, but does possess some intriguing young talent, including 2021 No. 1 overall pick Cade Cunningham, Jaden Ivey and Jalen Duren.
