Mets Predicted to Poach 29-Home Run Outfielder from Cross-Town Rival

December 12, 2025 by Heavy

The New York Mets got off to a strong start during this MLB offseason, but now seem to be losing players left and right. Reliever Edwin Diaz is now with the Dodgers, and franchise icon Pete Alonso signed with the Baltimore Orioles. David Stearns and Steve Cohen need to make a move soon to keep the attention positive in Queens.

Now that the Mets have lost their top two free agents this offseason, the front office has a chance to replace that empty production by signing new players. The Mets are thought to need outfielders, and luckily, two names at the top of the class could make a profound impact. A recent prediction has the Mets poaching away former Yankees outfielder Cody Bellinger in a big offseason signing.

In a recent ‘fresh predictions’ by Bleacher Report’s Tim Kelly, Cody Bellinger is predicted to land with the New York Mets on a five-year, $135 million deal.

“Perhaps the biggest winner in how the offseason has played out so far for the Mets is Cody Bellinger, who would be an upgrade for Carlos Mendoza’s club, which now has needs at first base, left field and center field,” wrote Kelly.

If it happens, that would be the second consecutive offseason that the Mets poach away the Yankees’ top free agent. In 2025, Bellinger hit 29 home runs, drove in 98 runs, and posted an OPS+ of 125. He is a two-time All-Star who won the NL MVP with the Dodgers back in 2019.

Bellinger provides strong defensive versatility, as he can play all three outfield spots and first base. After losing Pete Alonso, the Mets have a need at first base as well.

Cody Bellinger’s Fit with the Mets

After a strong season playing in Yankee Stadium, Bellinger is out to get paid, and the Mets just might be the most desperate team for a player like Bellinger. New York traded away Brandon Nimmo, and Cedric Mullins departed via free agency. The need for an outfielder is now, and New York has the money to go out and sign Bellinger.

The only thing about Bellinger’s free agency is that there is likely going to be several other suitors, but Steve Cohen has the power to outbid them.

Bellinger’s agent, Scott Boras, recently went full Shakespeare mode at the Winter Meetings with a long monologue of who is interested in his top client.

According to BaseballReference.com, Bellinger is projected to hit 23 home runs and drive in 83 runs next season. Playing away from Yankee Stadium may hurt his power numbers a little, but Cody Bellinger has shown over the course of his career his ability to find his power stroke wherever he is playing.
