Pistons guard Malik Beasley may be having one of his best NBA seasons on the court, but he’s reportedly navigating some unfortunate circumstances off of it.
Per TMZ Sports, the 28-year-old sharpshooter ‘s wife, Montana Yao, has filed for legal separation just one day before their fifth-year wedding anniversary.
The model shares two kids with Beasley but cites “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for their split — according to court docs obtained by the Hollywood outlet. Yao is also reportedly seeking spousal support as part of their separation agreement.
According to TMZ , this is not the first time the couple has had their ups-and-downs.
The NBA vet’s wife filed for divorce back in 2020 after he was spotted holding hands with Scottie Pippen’s ex, Larsa Pippen. And she’s also voiced her frustrations with the marriage on social media, where she says she was “blindsided” by Beasley and Pippen’s rumored relationship.
“Things have been pretty rough I’m not going to lie,” Montana said at the time. “We were told to leave our family home 10 days ago and just like you all I’m pretty confused… There have been no public or private addressing of the situation nor any type of apology.”
Yao and Beasley welcomed their first child six years ago, and another in November of 2022. She could often be seen courtside cheering Beasley on across his stints with the Nuggets, T’Wolves, Jazz, Lakers, Bucks and now Pistons.
According to Spotrac, Beasley has made roughly $60 million in career earnings across his four NBA contracts after being selected with the 19th overall pick in the ’16 Draft out of Florida State.
After a historically bad season in 2023-24, the Detroit Pistons have bounced back in a big way under head coach J.B. Bickerstaff — sitting at 35-27 and the sixth seed in the East with roughly a third of the season to go.
Beasley is the currently the team’s third-leading scorer and is shooting close to a career-high on his three-point attempts (42.2%).
