The Cincinnati Bengals improved to 5-10 with a 45-21 win over the Miami Dolphins. The Bengals faced an early deficit as they were down 14-10 in the second quarter; however, they then reeled off 35 straight points. The game was out of hand by the fourth quarter as Cincinnati removed starting quarterback Joe Burrow from the game.
Tee Higgins was able to clear concussion protocol in time for the game, giving the Bengals all key members of their potent offense for one of the few times this season.Higgins opened up the scoring with a nine-yard touchdown in the first quarter to give the Bengals the lead. The 45 points marked a season-high for Cincinnati, while the 21 points allowed were the fewest by their defense this year.
Joe Burrow’s Feat
In the game, Joe Burrow went 25-for-32 while throwing for 309 yards and four touchdowns. During the game, Burrow surpassed 20,000 career passing yards. He became the fifth quarterback in NFL history to throw for 20,000 yards in his first 75 career games.
When asked about the feat , Burrow said “I missed a full season of games too, so it should have been more.” The statistic measures games played rather than seasons, so Burrow may have misunderstood the nature of the statistic.
Earlier this year, Burrow made headlines as he said “If I want to keep doing this, I have to have fun doing it. I’ve been through a lot, and if it’s not fun, what am I doing it for? That’s the mindset I’m trying to bring to the table.” When asked about his mindset after the win against Miami, Burrow said “I’m having fun playing football. Not playing football is not fun. Sitting in the locker room rehabbing all day, that’s not why you do it. This is why you do it right here.” His positive words should give Bengals fans a sigh of relief after the concerning comments he made previously.
Bengals’ Win Over Miami
With the win, the Bengals improved to 3-1 when Joe Burrow, Tee Higgins and Ja’Marr Chase are all in the lineup. Unfortunately for Cincinnati, the team is 2-9 whenever one of them isn’t on the field. Chase went over 100 yards as he caught nine passes in the win, and he’s now 17 receptions shy of matching his career-high for catches in a season. Meanwhile, Tee Higgins matched his career-high with 10 touchdowns in a season.
Earlier this week, head coach Zac Taylor talked about playing football games without playoff ramifications and said “These types of games are good character games.” Now, after their 45-21 win against the Dolphins, Taylor said “I thought the response was tremendous by our guys. To put together such a complete game I thought was really impressive.”
The Bengals have two more games left on the season, both against teams that are under .500. Cincinnati has a chance to end the year on a hot-streak as they look to build momentum heading into the 2026 season.
