The Los Angeles Dodgers have been relatively quiet so far during the MLB offseason, with their biggest addition being former New York Mets closer Edwin Diaz.
While the Dodgers haven’t made any seismic moves just yet, that doesn’t mean they aren’t targeting one. Kyle Tucker has been talked about a lot recently as an option for the team.
Tucker, who came into the offseason as the top free agent on the market, has not seen the offers he was hoping to see. His market hasn’t developed the way many expected. With that being said, a new update has been shared about his status.
According to former MLB general manager Jim Duquette, Los Angeles is still very much involved in the Tucker sweepstakes. He also name-dropped the New York Mets and Toronto Blue Jays as being in pursuit of Tucker as well.
“A League source confirmed to me that the three main teams involved in the Tucker negotiations (Tor, LAD, NYM) have all met with the player, either in person or over Zoom, as part of the recruiting process for a star player,” Duquette wrote on X . “Will be interesting to see if any of the 3 teams increase their offers soon to separate themselves from the other.”
Los Angeles Dodgers’ 3-Peat Chances Would Skyrocket With Kyle Tucker
After winning back-to-back championships, the Dodgers are looking to get even richer with talent. Tucker is one of the best pure hitters in baseball. Bringing him onboard would be almost unfair.
During the 2025 MLB season with the Chicago Cubs , Tucker played through injury issues. He appeared in 136 games, hitting 22 home runs and driving in 73 RBI. Tucker also produced a slash line of .266/.377/.464.
Those numbers would make an already lethal Los Angeles lineup even more dangerous.
At 28 years old, Tucker could be a long-term cornerstone piece for the Dodgers. This would not be a signing for the short-term necessarily. Tucker and Shohei Ohtani could form a dynamic duo for years to come.
Simply thinking about having to face Los Angeles with Tucker added into the lineup is nightmare fuel for pitching staffs.
What Will It Take to Sign Tucker?
Making the move to sign Tucker will not come cheap. The Dodgers will need to bring out a big check in order to get a deal done.
Since the beginning of the offseason, the expected price tag has been somewhere between $300 million and $400 million. That still seems likely to be what it will take to sign the superstar outfielder.
For Los Angeles, getting a deal done that includes deferred money would be the clear avenue to an agreement. In recent years, the Dodgers have become the top team using deferred money to bring in star caliber players. No one should expect anything different if they sign Tucker.
Expect to hear more developments come out about Tucker in the near future. For now, these three teams will continue battling to land an agreement from him.
Los Angeles has already gone all-in on winning the World Series in each of the last two years. No one should expect the Dodgers to stop now.
