Diamond Dallas Page Reflects on Butterbean’s Dramatic Health Transformation

December 1, 2025 by Heavy

WWE legend Diamond Dallas Page recently opened up about former boxer Butterbean’s health transformation. The shocking results were a testament to DDP Yoga and were documented as part of his new Tubi series Change or Die. He explained why the former boxing star’s transformation was so powerful for viewers.

Butterbean, whose real name Eric Esch, was noticeably limited physically from the start of the show. He required crutches to help him stand and admitted that he felt he only had a few years left to live.

‘The King of The 4 Rounder’ needed hip surgery and was in tremendous pain. However, he had to lose a certain amount of weight before becoming eligible for the procedure.

During his appearance on The Game Plan, Page revealed that he had extended an offer to Butterbean when they both appeared on a podcast. Initially, ‘DDP’ thought the former boxer was simply overweight. However, he later discovered that the boxer’s physical limitations were far more severe, and he had tremendous difficulty moving around.

“Watching Butterbean hunched over and walking with canes in his hands. He put them underneath his arms but it hurt like hell,” Page said. “A lot of times, he would put the crutches in front of him and walk the a crab.”

Before his transition, Butterbean had been moving around with the assistance of crutches and a scooter. Page emphasized that the effort to help the former boxer was a collaborative one.

“We use this in the [show]. I said, ‘Man, how are we going to help him? And my business partner who’s another guy who’s super positive, said, ‘But what if we can?’”

Diamond Dallas Page Shares Initial Thoughts on Butterbean

Diamond Dallas Page also shared his initial thoughts on Butterbean before he arrived at his Accountability Crib for Change or Die .

‘DDP’ revealed that his previous interaction with the former boxer had been on their mutual friend’s podcast. He admitted that he wasn’t aware of the severity of Butterbean’s physical issues and limitations.

“[Butterbean] was sitting in a chair when he was doing the podcast, so I didn’t see his limitations. I just thought he was big,” Page told The Game Plan. “I didn’t know that he was in that much pain. Brutal pain.”

Page Reveals Dwayne Johnson Reached Out After Seeing Butterbean’s Transformation

Page’s work with DDP Yoga has been praised by his peers in the pro wrestling industry. One of those peers is Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson , who reached out to him after seeing Butterbean’s transformation.

‘DDP’ has helped several current and former pro wrestlers improve their quality of life, overcome physical limitations, and even addiction.

That proven track record has made DDP Yoga a trusted brand. Page expressed gratitude for the voice messages The Rock sent him on Instagram.

“[Johnson] put it over,” Page told The Game Plan. He was watching the Butterbean video and two minutes in, he says, ‘I had to call you up and and hit you up and say what great work you’re doing with the boys.’”

He continued:

“[Johnson said], ‘I’m only two minutes into this thing and it’s mindboggling.” He wanted to thank me cause the guys that really care about the other guys are guys like Rock.”
